Pay Rate: $85,000

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) drives dramatic improvements in the health of New Yorkers by feeding people who are hungry, healing families broken apart by violence, and bridging the gaps between people and the compassionate health care they deserve. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities - people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Accountant collaborates closely with the other members of the finance team to ensure all accounting and fiscal practices are conducted in a timely and accurate manner. The agency is supported primarily by government contracts and private foundations which have varying reporting mechanisms, invoicing processes, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Accountant will assist in fiscal grant management and is also responsible for managing the general ledger, monthly closing process, and all other related functions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and review city and state vouchers, funders reports, and program budgets.
  • Allocate and track expenses to contracts ensuring expenditures are approved and accounted for.
  • Prepare budget to actual reports for the grants and contracts to review with senior program staff.
  • Oversee banking matters including the daily positive pay exceptions, wire transfers, and cash balance report.
  • Analyze the monthly revenue into the general ledger from the various respective billing systems.
  • Lead for processing of biweekly payroll in payroll system and review payroll edit reports.
  • Analyze monthly and quarterly payroll reports and ensure reconciliation with general ledger.
  • Assist in employee orientation meetings and employee training.
  • Prepare and post monthly and year-end closing adjusting entries in accordance with fiscal audit.
  • Oversee and analyze monthly credit card to be allocated to proper general ledger account.
  • Assist Controller and Director of Budget Management in updating fiscal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with fiscal operation.
  • Assist Controller and CFO with month end and year end closing process.
  • Assist with preparation for agency-wide financial audit as well as audits by grant agencies.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable to respective subsidiary ledgers and aging, review collectability of receivables and offer suggestions related to possible allowance reserves to executive management.
  • Reconcile and ensure appropriate recording of expenditures related to multiple service projects.
  • Oversee and Audit Petty Cash and Metro Card requests.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are being followed as per organizational policy and procedure manuals.
  • Support supervision of Fiscal Analysts in Controller's absence
  • Other special projects assigned by the Finance Department

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required in Accounting or Finance related field with accounting coursework.
  • At least 5 years of experience in related roles with increasing responsibility
  • At least 3 years of management experience.
  • Not For Profit Accounting experience preferred.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience with Acumatica accounting system preferred.
  • Experience with Paylocity HRIS system preferred.
