Position Title Labor Affairs Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION

Provide strategic and tactical HD solutions and support in functional areas of Human Development. The Labor Affairs Specialist will focus on employee and labor relations. Must take a hands-on approach and be comfortable with all levels of employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Maintain and foster productive working relations with the UAW as well as salaried and hourly employees:

Lead Collective Bargaining Agreement and Collective Bargaining

Develop and implement policies to ensure consistent treatment for employees

Coordinate initiatives to encourage employee feedback and engagement

Engage in problem solving activities to improve HD processes

Train management and provide support in the interpretation of company and plant policies as well as the Collective Bargaining Agreement

Investigate and resolve employee issues

Manages the administration of local labor contracts; provides interpretation to Coordinators and HD teams.

Leads the process for review and resolution of employee grievances in the facility.

Advises coordinators and collaborators on sensitive labor and employee relations matters, perform grievance and arbitration procedures, follow up performance issues and disciplinary actions.

Manage turnover and absenteeism analytics and insights and an action plan to keep them under control in the facility, providing labor stability to the operation.

Assists managers in identifying employee relations issues and determining appropriate course of action.

Stay abreast in the current knowledge of employee and labor relations trends, legal decisions, and statutory changes.

Conducts research necessary to support contract negotiations and employee relations. Partner with labor regional in the negotiation strategies to develop bargaining goals and negotiate contracts consistent with Metalsa's mission, values and goals.

Monitor and stay abreast of employment and employee relations trends and practices. Advise management on emerging HD and Labor trends and partner with the local leadership team to support the plant strategic direction.

Manages the local employee relations team to provide guidance to management staff by contract interpretation, investigation and advice on a full range of employee relations matters including informal and formal grievances, development of performance management plans, disciplinary issues, employee assistance referrals, and reduction in force issues.

Aligns with regional labor to implement rightsizing, downsizing or any other action required to adjust the size of the company, also leads special reduction in workforce processes to avoid risk and infiltrations. All termination process should be validated and approved by the global labor CoE.

Leads on-going communication and working relationships with UAW local representatives.

Provides information, advice and assistance to HD local team and plant coordinator regarding application of statutes, regulations, contracts and employee relations practices relating to their functional areas.

Leads the union avoidance strategy in union free facilities implementing the appropriate training and avoidance actions

Create and maintain high level relation with local government, chambers, union leaders and other bodies looking for the best interest of Metalsa and his employees.

Partner with talent acquisition to filter and minimize labor risk due to undesired infiltrations.

Audit policies and labor contracts to align them with local laws and regulations

Perform activities to improve the labor environment and employee's engagement.

Perform transparency line or any other source investigations ensuring that each is properly conducted, documented and resolved including any necessary follow up till closure.

Administer FMLA and medical leaves:

Ensure that Federal guidelines are being met for the administration of FMLA

Track FMLA and medical leaves. Ensure that documentation provided is sufficient to approve leaves

Payroll administration:

Verify payroll entries and changes

Check for accuracy and report any discrepancies to payroll administrator

Maintain and distribute, as appropriate:

Current employee information (personnel files)

Policy and procedure manuals

KPI and other tracking reports; including Kronos attendance

Administers EEO and Affirmative Action programs/policies

Conducts employee accessions and related new hire training. Manage, track and trend hiring, termination and turnover data.

Participates or leads disciplinary hearings. Ensures that employees are treated in a fair and equitable manner.

Active involvement with internal customers to ensure questions and concerns are being addressed in a timely manner

Additional responsibilities as required - this position is subject to change as the needs of the department change

ACADEMICS AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA

PHR or SHRM CP Certification preferred

Bachelor's Degree in HR or HR related field and minimum of 3-5 years in HR manufacturing field required or 5-10 years of HR experience in a manufacturing setting

FMLA and Medical Leave Administration Experience required

Knowledge of State and Federal laws required

3-5 years of HR experience in a unionized manufacturing setting preferred
