Position Overview:

Pure Storage is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to drive and manage all mechanical
disciplines for a modular chassis-based system. Individual will drive all mechanical and thermal design
of storage chassis. Candidate must be detail oriented and will run several internal and external weekly
meetings. Proactively working to improve chassis and review CAD models and working samples in
detail. Candidate should possess strong understanding of sheet metal & die cast tooling along with
cost structure, schedule, and tradeoffs. They must also have a strong understanding of heatsink
design, thermal paste & fan curve tradeoffs, FloTherm modeling, and baffle design to continually
improve thermals within chassis.


Past experience working with Tier 1 JDMs is highly desired. As the Mechanical Lead, candidate
needs to collaborate with several engineering, operations, and quality teams within Pure Storage.
Must understand and drive all mechanical tests for chassis and new individual parts (PCIe Cards,
Drives, etc ..). Responsibilities include reviewing Allegro board files for mechanical DFMs and
silkscreen accuracy. Individual must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Duties
include creating and maintaining mechanical test and environmental specifications. Candidate should
have 10+ years of mechanical & thermal design experience. Looking for an engineer with a can-do
attitude who gets excited about taking on new challenges.

Responsibilities:

? Lead mechanical projects from a task-based, cross functional schedule
? Collaborate with ODM/JDM partner development team
? Work seamlessly with internal cross functional teams (HW, SW, Test, Quality, Certification &
Operations) to meet program deliverables and quality criteria according to program milestones
? Drive mechanical product cost and tooling NRE and schedule
? Design review for prototype builds and DFX, outside design firms, and supplier deliverables
? Drive mechanical development & sustaining meetings; participate in other HW meetings as
required
? Collaborate with external ID (industrial design) team for ID development
? Drive development of Statement of Work for mechanical development

? Responsible for managing the mechanical tooling NRE/parts cost budget
? Drive & Maintain Proto & Pilot builds to align with project schedules
? Review Allegro Board files for mechanical DFMs
? Internal Designs can include ( drive carriers, chassis concepts, PCIe card carriers )
? Must understand all aspects of design ( CAD, Tolerance analysis, Thermal tradeoffs,
DFX, Sheet Metal, Fan Selection, Heat Sink Selection, Material selection, etc )
? Mentor younger mechanical Engineers
? Ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed (historically less than 5%)

Qualifications:

? BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
? 10+ years in a related product development role with responsibility for taking device level
products from concept to market
? Experience with high volume, cosmetic electronics chassis materials
? Experience in product validation (Thermal validation, shock/drop, environmental testing, etc.)
? Demonstrated cross functional project management, leadership, and mentoring skills
? Strong management by influence track record.
? Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster strong cross-functional teamwork
? Proven track record in delivering high quality, high volume products
? Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
? Strong leadership skills and an ability to work autonomously
? 3D CAD skills, including experience with ProE/Creo Parametric or equivalent
? Hands-on experience with detail sheetmetal/plastic/die-cast/extrusion design, prototyping
method
? Experience in EVT, DVT test plan development
? Experience in managing ODM/JDM partners
? Solid understanding of thermal principles of cooling electronics equipment. Familiarity with
thermal analysis tool such as Flotherm a plus.

Pay Range:
USD $187,000.00 - USD $281,000.00 /Yr.
