Job Description

The Sr. Director Project Controls manages and leads all Project Controls for Zachry's EPC Projects Group. This includes cost, schedule, planning, advanced work packaging (AWP), planning and reporting. This position requires being able to communicate at an executive level and with senior leaders in the organization. Good communication skills along with being able to improve the organization through system upgrades, standardization, employee development, and functional organization is a must. This position will report to the Vice President of Estimating and Project Controls.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement project control strategies and policies aligned with the organization's goals and objectives by reporting cost/schedule forecasting.
  • Manage and lead project controls project execution in the field/engineering office, ensuring projects are executed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards, that includes staffing, reporting, change management, AWP.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting. Monitor and control project costs to optimize resource allocation. Identify and mitigate project risks by implementing effective risk management strategies and monitoring risk factors.
  • Lead key managers in developing proposal support for EPC projects along with objectional reporting and cost/schedule forecasting, by establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop performance dashboards to track project progress and make data-driven decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies, to ensure effective communication and alignment.
  • Ensure that projects adhere to all relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols. Standardization of processes and procedures across all projects that is scalable to the size of the project
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by implementing best practices and optimizing project management processes. Development and Implementation of new tools that support the growth and efficiency of project controls.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop project control teams, fostering a high-performance work environment. Employee Development and training across the enterprise.
Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in industrial project management and project controls, with a proven track record of successful project execution.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project cost, earned value, CPM scheduling and detail planning, contract management concepts
  • Commitment to Accuracy and Reliability
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or similar credentials.
  • Primavera P6, @Risk, CMIS, SAP, Earned Value Systems, Oracle Contract Manager, CAD/Construct Sim, Oracle Procurement, Hard Dollar
  • Experience in industrial sectors such as manufacturing, construction, energy, or infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific software and tools.

This job description serves as a general guideline for the role of a Senior Director of Project Controls in the industrial sector. Specific responsibilities may vary based on the organization's size, industry, and project complexity.

REPORTING TO THIS POSITION

This position provides direct supervision or through work leaders or assistants, typically with a subordinate group of up to ten (10) employees. Position requires estimating of personnel needs and assignment of work to meet completion dates in accordance with established schedules. Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of assigned staff. Recommend candidates for employment, conduct performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff and administer company policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical ability to perform routine audits/visits of shop floor activities. Physical ability to perform bid informational job/site walks along with ability to climb ladders and stairs when required inside of industrial Oil/Chemical facilities. Additionally, may be asked to meet following physical demands standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and/or reaching.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working conditions infrequently involve some physical exertion, exposure to the elements or hazards inherent in the job which may include routine travel. Work is primarily sedentary; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. General office environment and outdoors occasionally with extreme weather conditions. Must be able to work along and with others including customer contact, suppliers and Design Engineers. Must be able to withstand loud noise conditions occasionally.
