Founded in 2008, the Petey Greene Program (PGP) is an educational justice organization that supports the academic goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through high-quality volunteer tutoring programs, while educating volunteers on the injustice manifest in our carceral system.
We envision a world in which all incarcerated people have access to high-quality academic programs and we strive to inspire our alumni - both students and tutors - to become advocates, and to take on leadership roles that reimagine the criminal legal system.
The PGP operates the largest multi-state volunteer tutoring program for currently and formerly incarcerated people. Since its founding, the PGP has tutored more than 18,000 students at over 120 tutoring sites, including both correctional facilities and reentry programs. We've trained and placed approximately 4,000 volunteers and recruited from more than 40 partner universities in six states and the District of Columbia.

The Opportunity
As the Petey Greene Program begins implementation of an ambitious strategic plan that will guide our work from through 2028, the Executive Director of Development will play a vital role in developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to drive increased revenue growth for the Petey Greene Program that is diverse, sustainable, and includes a combination of earned revenue and private funding opportunities.
The role is responsible for developing strategies to create new opportunities for revenue growth, retain current donors and funders, and expand the Petey Greene Program in accordance with the Petey Greene Program mission. The Executive Director of Development will work closely with the CEO and other members of the PGP to develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy to support and fund the Petey Greene Program's current work as well as continued growth. The Executive Director of Development will also be responsible for leading the development team, including supporting the leadership growth of development team members and collaborating with the Director of Development Operations to align development team responsibilities, systems, and tools to meet funding objectives.
The Executive Director of Development will be persuasive and have strong business acumen. They will have extensive experience in and a passion for cultivating relationships with supporters, trustees, and major donors. In addition, they will be adept at negotiating fee-for-service contracts, and exceptional at building strong relationships with foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other potential funding partners. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills and will be able to assess business risks by analyzing financial, statistical, and economic data.
The Executive Director of Development will oversee PGPs development team which includes but is not limited to a Director of Grants, Director of Development Operations, Development Manager, Communications Manager, and Executive Assistant. This position reports to the CEO and collaborates extensively with the Petey Greene Program leadership team.
Preferred candidates will be located in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic. Candidates must be able to travel to visit PGP regions as needed.
Responsibilities
Formulates the development strategy, which aligns with the overall organizational strategy and communications plans
Leads and executes the development plan, incorporating

and coordinating around communications and event strategy, to generate incremental revenue and ensure that fundraising targets are met
Is responsible for cultivating relationships with individual and major donors.
Develops strategies and partnerships to create revenue generation opportunities in new and existing areas
Formulates and regularly updates yearly and quarterly revenue projections, providing periodic updates on the progress of development initiatives against the set strategic objectives.
Monitors the PGPs visibility, promotes organizational image and acts as an organizational ambassador
Works with internal stakeholders to understand the organizations strengths and value proposition to develop strategies that result in sustainable growth
Mobilizes internal stakeholders to support new and existing development initiatives
Based on evidence, informs present and future service and programming development needs
Demonstrates effective use of indirect influence techniques
Uses data to plan for growth and identify potential funding opportunities including donations from individuals and legacy gifts, as well as foundation, government, corporate grants and other funding opportunities
Collaborates with the CEO and Director of Development Operations to secure event sponsorships and honorary speakers
Collaborates with the CEO to develop the Board of Trustees and National Advisory Board and support board-led fundraising initiatives
Stays updated on PGP regions and program happenings and collaborates with regional staff as needed on region-specific relationship-development and funding pursuits
Leads the development team and is ultimately responsible for all revenue streams at a high level
Collaborates with the Director of Development Operations to align processes and ensure efficiency and collaboration within the development team
Develops development capacity within the leadership team and the whole organization
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in a related field or 5-10 years of experience in a related role in the non-profit space
Proven business development and fundraising experience
