Records Retention Manager

We are working with a government agency in Austin Texas to find Records Retention Manager for their team. This is a policy and operations-focused role and will not manage any documents hands-on.

Within this agency there are multiple departments, each with its own Records Retention schedule and policies. This Customer Service-oriented role is responsible for ensuring employees are aware of Records Retention policies and schedules, answering questions related to RIM, and ensuring policies are being followed correctly. You will serve as the Records Management Officer (RMO) with a main focus on Records Retention but will also work on areas like Data Governance and Accessibility.

This will be a six-month contract with the potential of a permanent position. You must be based in Austin, or commutable to downtown to qualify. This position will be initially on site 5 days per week and will shift to 2 days remote and 3 on-site in Austin working with the team in time.

Responsibilities:

  • Administers the agency's Records and Information Management (RIM) Program
  • Develops RIM guidelines, policies, and procedures for records and information in all formats.
  • Serves as the agency's point of contact with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).
  • Oversees the agency's Records Retention Schedule (RSS), ensuring the RRS accurately reflects the records created and maintained by the agency.
  • Minimizes retention and facilitates disposal of PII.
  • Assists with auditing and reporting
  • Identifies RIM training needs for staff and develops training materials.
  • Tracks and identifies RIM trends and resolves operational problems.
  • Monitors and evaluates the budget for RIM services.
  • Monitors RIM-related services and reconciles, evaluates, and reports service performance.
  • Assists with risk management policies, procedures, and training
Requirements:
  • Experience in RIM / Records Retention, including implementing RIM initiatives through division or department coordinators.
  • Experience with electronic records, applying RIM principles, best practices, and records storage procedures.
  • Experience managing and maintaining an RRS for a government organization would be preferred
  • Customer Service-oriented attitude. You want to help people.

  • Certified Records Manager ICRM
  • Certified Records Analyst
  • Information Governance Professional
  • Certified E-Discovery Specialist
