Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and financial reporting processes for both a STAT basis insurance company and a GAAP basis management company. The Senior Accountant will primarily focus on financial reporting but will also assist with operational budgeting and ad hoc accounting projects as needed. This role reports directly to the Assistant Controller.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes for both the insurance entity (STAT basis) and the management company (GAAP basis).
  • Prepare account reconciliations and process journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct variance analysis to explain fluctuations in key accounts, providing insightful explanations.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and disclosures, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements.
  • Interact with external auditors, providing necessary explanations and support for financial statement audits.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance the organization's financial integrity.
  • Support the Controller in preparing materials for quarterly Board reporting, including slide decks and industry highlights.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience, either in public accounting or within the industry.
  • Experience in both GAAP and STAT reporting for insurance companies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong financial accounting and general ledger skills with a solid understanding of accounting principles.
Preferred:
  • Experience in Property & Casualty insurance, with an emphasis on private passenger auto.
  • Experience working with general ledger software.
  • Familiarity with STAT Annual Statement software such as Gain Compliance, Wings, FIS, etc.
