Twin Cities PBS has a growing Giving Team and we have an exciting new role The Planned Giving Officer is responsible for the developing and implementing a comprehensive planned giving program to secure financial support through bequests, trusts, endowments, and other planned giving instruments. The Planned Giving Officer will lead the development and help refine program strategies, processes, and activities that lead to successfully meeting growth goals. Specifically, the Planned Giving Officer will create broad donor communications, develop, and execute fundraising strategies, work collaboratively with other Major Gift staff members to secure contributions, and steward new and current donor relationships to grow TPT's Visionary Society. The Planned Giving Officer will also raise current gifts as part of the gift planning process when such gifts are in the best interests of donors and TPT.

Donor Relations (60% of time)

  • Consistently meet or exceed revenue and growth goals through donor cultivation
  • Manage a portfolio of planed giving prospect to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward supporters
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with donors, financial advisors, and legal professionals to facilitate planned giving discussions
  • Identify donors' passions and interests, build relationships, and steward relationships into meaningful support opportunities
  • Serve as point of contact for individuals with interest in planned giving and those who document a gift, and build a process to welcome, cultivate and track their donor journey
  • Provide ongoing guidance to the members of the development team, TPT senior staff, Board members, and other key volunteers to secure planned gifts
  • Fully utilize the CRM to track communications, deepen data points, and leverage data to inform and prioritize activities and strategies
  • Works with staff to assist in complex planned gifts, including annuity illustrations, etc.
  • Solicit annual operating gifts from donors a personal portfolio, when appropriate
  • Actively participate in the creation and execution of fundraising activities and events, including station tours, donor visits and events hosted by the Development Team
  • Communicate the value and impact of TPT while representing the TPT brand to our community
Planned Giving Strategy and Processes (20% of time)
  • Build and lead giving strategies and processes related to the planned giving program
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to build and implement a full range of giving campaigns to secure planned and current gifts
  • Create and deliver presentations, seminars, and other informational sessions to promote planned giving opportunities
  • Manage the Visionary Society donor recognition program to steward and further cultivate existing program donors
  • Collaborate with the fundraising team to integrate planned giving into overall fundraising strategies
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate planned giving communication, stewardship, and engagement strategies
  • Oversee external vendor relationships to develop significant value to donors and the program
  • Stay informed about tax laws, investment strategies, and other factors affecting planned giving, and communicate relevant information to donors
  • Analyze data to inform and prioritize individual and planned giving strategies
  • Meet or exceed individual goals as well support the team to reach larger departmental revenue goals
  • Manage process improvements as needed
Planned Giving Administration (15% of time)
  • Monitor and participate in the administration of probate and trust estates to ensure TPT receives all funds intended by donors
  • Consult with TPT's General Counsel on gift planning legal matters, as needed
  • Coordinate with Finance regarding the expected amount of pending estate gifts that should be considered for booking
  • Oversee gift processing and acknowledgement of all realized planned gifts
  • Tracks all realized planned gift revenue and regularly report status to the VP, Development.
Other Duties as Assigned (5% of time)
  • Participate as an active member of the Advancement division
  • Constantly act as an internal and external ambassador of the Major Gifts team
  • Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues to achieve priorities
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
Required Experience
  • 8 years combination of education and successful work experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree
  • 8-10 years of fundraising experience with a demonstrated record of accomplishment with major and planned gift area
Preferred Experience
  • 10+ years of fundraising experience with demonstrated record of accomplishment with major and planed gift area
  • Expertise in estate planning and trust and estate administration
  • Experience with tax, legal, and financial requirements, and benefits of charitable estate planning.
  • Bachelor's Degree
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Proficiency managing a CRM to maximize relationship management
  • Ability to use discretion when handling and communicating sensitive information
  • The ability to create effective, high-quality relationships with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and motivate self to achieve success by taking initiative and being detail oriented
  • Familiarity with process of probate and trust estate administration, including interacting with estate attorneys, executors, and trustees
  • Ability to communicate with donors, and staff about complex gift planning and estate issues clearly and diplomatically
  • Ability to interact on a professional level with donors' legal and financial advisors
  • Ability to write and develop letters, proposals, and other communication promoting and communicating planned gifts.
  • Computer proficiency required, including experience with CRM, PG Calc (or other planned giving software), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint highly desirable
  • Must be able and willing to learn new technology, processes, and systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members

  • Ability to travel to locations in the greater metro area on a frequent basis, partake in some evening and weekend hours for meetings and events
  • Occasional travel out of the state, as needed
