Program Specialist AHST

SUMMARY

The Program Specialist assists the Academy for Human Services Training (AHST) management team to help assure that the individuals in the program have the supports needed for their successful completion of each phase of the training program including instruction, internships, certification, job development, job placement, and job retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works a flexible schedule that will include working both day and some evening hours at all AHST program sites and/or in the community.
  • Assists Case Managers with addressing students' case management and programmatic needs and barriers to successful completion.
  • Assists in coordinating instructors for classes on the AHST training calendars and are scheduled using the most up to-date curriculum.
  • Assists in the development of Individual Service Strategies for AHST students to address areas of need and strength.
  • Assists in the job development, placement and internship components of the program to ensure benchmark attainment.
  • Counsels program participants regarding personal issues that may interfere with program completion and successful job attainment and coordinates vocational strategies with students that address transportation, childcare, and similar needs.
  • Conducts individual case management meetings with students and graduates, providing information on childcare, transportation, behavioral health, benefits and entitlements, and other such social services as needed.
  • Conducts ongoing job development activities with employers across the state.
  • Maintains regular contact with employers for the purpose of developing job leads and facilitating retention.
  • Maintains contact with student internship placement sites and monitors students at internship sites to track student progress by conducting site visits during placement.
  • Operates motor vehicles safely and in accordance with State Law (agency and personal automobiles) while on work related duties. Must have access to a registered, insured vehicle.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Personal vehicle will be required for travel purposes. High school diploma or GED with at least two years of experience in the human service field.

  • This is a full time 40 hour per week position. Flexible scheduling needed to meet program and/or student needs.
