Typical Schedule:

This is a full-time position with typical hours 8am to 5pm EST Monday through Friday. This position does include some evening and weekend work, as well as travel.

Purpose:

The Executive Director of Development is responsible for the creation of plans, implementation of strategies, and supervision of development services and the major gift program at the College. The Executive Director of Development supervises staff in stewardship programming, prospect research and gift processing, foundation and church relations, and major and planned gifts . The Executive Director of Development manages programming budgets; consults with both current and prospective donors regarding applicable technical and gift planning matters; assists with directing campaign activities of the College; and works in partnership with the Vice President for College Relations in the publication and distribution of various development publications. The Executive Director of Development assists the Senior Vice President for Mission Advancement and the Board of Trustees of Holy Cross College in conducting other development related business.

Essential Job Duties :

Provides leadership and focus to the Office of Mission Advancement and guides the programs administered by the office through the development and implementation of strategies to meet long- and short-range goals and objectives in development. The Executive Director of Development manages program budgets and supervises and motivates professional, support, and student staff members, thus ensuring that their work activities are integrated with and supportive of the total development program.

Directs the prospect management and gift processing activities of the office, providing training and access to professional development for all team members.

Enhances the resources and opportunities available to faculty, staff, and students at the College by developing and implementing fund-raising programs for major program needs and capital giving to the College.

Provides for current and long-range needs of the College by guiding a staff who supervise fund-raising programs for planned and deferred gifts, major gifts, principal gifts, and special campaigns.

Facilitates charitable giving to meet the needs of donors and the College by remaining current and proficient on technical and tax code matters affecting donors and charitable giving, and by suggesting options for donors to pursue with financial and planning professionals.

Works with the Vice President for College Relations to develop and implement programs fostering alumni and parent involvement with the College and to encourage meaningful and productive alumni and parent participation.

Ensures the appropriate acknowledgement of gifts through a stewardship program that provides appropriate level recognition for each donor to the College.

Identifies a stable pool of gift prospects for future giving by cultivating and soliciting (in conjunction with other development and alumni relations staff) prospective donors, as well as current donors. Also coordinate with the Vice President for College Relations on annual giving initiatives.

Creates opportunities for interaction among the College staff, alumni and potential donors, thereby enhancing the potential for giving, by representing the College at various functions where there is a significant concentration of alumni, parents, and/or potential donors.

In partnership with the Vice President for College Relations, supervises the production and distribution of major donor related publications to assure a positive image of the College to support the fund-raising goals of the Office of Development.

Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.

Contributes to the overall success of the Office of Mission Advancement by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Strategic Initiatives

Create annual fundraising work plans for the team that includes fundraising goals and targets for proposals to be presented, faculty referrals, and visits planned.

Ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, federal and state laws, Donor Bill of Rights, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) standards for reporting and gift acceptance, CAE, AFP and other industry guidelines and standards.

Maintain a user-friendly CRM database (Raiser's Edge NXT) that meets the needs and expectations of advancement, alumni engagement, donor relations and stewardship, and advancement communications staff; educate and advise the team on best practices for utilizing the CRM to accomplish departmental goals; provide training as necessary.

Lead and build out a robust prospect research and management operation; work closely with gift officers to analyze portfolios; actively identify new leadership, major, and planned giving prospects and assign them for cultivation.

Create and implement a system for accurately recording gifts that allows for timely and efficient acknowledgement and reporting with internal and external partners.

Oversee the creation, distribution, and accuracy of reports for Board of Trustees, President's office and other internal and external constituencies as needed.

Prepare regular fundraising analyses; apply quantitative reasoning to identify trends in data; benchmark with other institutions when possible.

Maintain an active portfolio of approximately 15-20 prospects and engage directly in major and principal gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals, foundations, and corporations.

In coordination with the Vice President for College Relations, develop in-house models to identify new and upgrade donors.

Oversee and ensure data integrity of scheduled appends and database maintenance.

Reconcile monthly figures, including pledges, with the College Finance Office.

With the Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics, review and update College Dashboards on a regular basis.

Research and benchmark with peer Advancement Services programs to ensure best-practices are being followed in advancement operations.

With the Senior Vice President for Mission Advancement, manage expenses associated with Advancement Services operations.

Document, maintain, and update policies, procedures, and administrative systems to guide daily operations. Review and amend on a regular basis.

Work closely with the Office of Information Technology to create and maintain dataflow systems with other campus CRM sources.

Coordinate with the Vice President of College Relations on event registration and e-communication platforms.

Ensure the highest level of customer service for internally and externally focused operations.

Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability:

The successful candidate will be an inclusive, collaborative, and proactive leader with professional experience and leadership style to inspire a common vision of the College. The person in this role will have had success developing and executing results-based marketing, advertising, and brand management campaigns and strategies, and will understand and uphold the College’s commitment to its Catholic mission.

Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.

At least 5 years of successful fund-raising and development experience is required, preferably in higher education. Management of fund-raising staff preferred.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

A proven track record of success and experience in major and/or principal gift fund raising is required.

Proven success leading transformative change and strengthening cross-organizational fund-raising strategy and impact.

The ability to project a strong positive image of the College through personal interaction with donors, alumni, parents, and friends is required.

Intellectual curiosity and willingness to encourage and champion innovation.

The ability to generate buy-in and develop consensus and excitement for new ideas while maintaining a sense of urgency and commitment to keep initiatives on track.

The necessary skills to build and nurture meaningful, lasting relationships and foster collaboration and support among constituents across the College and community.

Excellent organizational, administrative, and project management skills, including the ability to translate strategies into achievable steps, assimilate information quickly, and accurately represent a position to a variety of audiences.

Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills such as strategic planning, setting deadlines, and evaluating progress is required.

A demonstrated ability to organize, motivate, and lead staff and volunteers is required.

Computer literacy, particularly related to word processing and database management is preferred.

The ability to evaluate the costs, risks, and benefits associated with alternative actions when committing to an initiative and/or course of action.

Exceptional collaboration skills with an ability to partner effectively with others in the pursuit of common goals.
