Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Maintenance General Date Posted: 3/15/2024 Location: Pawtucket School Department Building Maintenance: Master Plumber position provides plumbing services to all school department buildings, specifically identifying repair and/or replacement needs and ensuring compliance with accessibility and safety codes/regulations. This position reports directly to the Director of Facilities in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Facilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings of plumbing systems to determine the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems and repairs. Troubleshoots and diagnoses failures in plumbing/irrigation systems to identify repair and/or replacement needs. Responsible for installing plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g., hot water heaters, drinking fountains, etc.), providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities. Fabricate equipment parts to meet specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts. Inspect buildings and facilities to evaluate conditions, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance. Regularly informs the Facilities Administration staff verbally and in writing to document the progress and status of projects (e.g., work order status, activity logs, etc.) Maintains and transports tools, supplies, and equipment to ensure the availability of materials required at a job site. Requests equipment and supplies to maintain Inventory and ensure the availability of Items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair. Responsible for meeting with contractors for upcoming projects, pricing, or review of issues related to equipment and fixtures. Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions. Responds to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate plumbing concerns. As directed, perform plowing and snow remova operations Ability to perform other duties assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Facilities to meet the specific needs of the Pawtucket School Department and its students. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to perform algebra and/or geometry calculations and read technical information Specific knowledge-based competencies are required to perform the job's functions, including methods, techniques, materials, and tools used in plumbing maintenance and repair; and safety practices and procedures. Ability to complete tasks and paperwork requirements in a timely manner Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the general public Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional and courteous manner Ability to plan and organize with an emphasis on detail, consistency, and accuracy Ability to establish priorities and maintain productivity, whether working independently or with others Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills Proven self-directed learner Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license Possession of State of Rhode Island Journeyman's Plumber license 2 years of experience as a Plumber Proficiency in working with computers PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree Previous experience in the school department setting PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequently required to stand, sit and walk. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl Frequently required to talk and hear Must be able to feel attributes of objects, grasp, push, reach, and stoop/kneel/crouch Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 75 pounds Must have clarity of vision, precise hand-eye coordination The work environment is typically within school buildings; the employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions Salary: $21,01
