The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.Metra's Capital Delivery Department is divided into seven sections: Stations and Parking Design, Civil/Structural Design, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction, NEPA, Project Management, and Project Controls. The Station and Parking Design manages the design of Metra's station and parking capital projects. The Wayfinding and Signs team is a subgroup of Stations and Parking Design that manages wayfinding and sign projects related to Metra stations. The Civil/Structural Design manages the design of capital infrastructure projects including tracks, bridges, and yard facilities. Electrical/Mechanical manages traction power and mechanical capital projects. Construction manages the construction of capital projects. The NEPA team manages the environmental review and historic resources review processes for capital projects. The Project Management team leads various capital projects across the Capital Program. The Project Controls team continually improves the processes and systems that are used to manage capital projects.Reporting to the Director, Electrical & Mechanical Design, the Senior Electrical Engineer applies specialized expertise in the performance of electrical design, construction, and project management functions; provides technical guidance on the repair and maintenance of newly installed equipment to maintenance electricians working on Metra commuter railroad lines, facilities, and stations; and trains less experienced staff on division operations. Manage consultants including: developing and maintaining project schedules, leading planning and progress meetings, monitoring and approving tasks, visiting job sites to inspect work-in-progress for compliance with contract specifications and quality standards, and resolving technical issues. Prepare design packages including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and technical calculations for power distribution projects, electrical equipment purchases, and lighting systems, ensuring compliance with federal and local codes, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and electrical industry standards. Prepare contract documents required to solicit projects for bid; participate in pre-bid meetings to respond to scope, specification, and technical questions; review vendor bid proposals for compliance, feasibility, efficiency, and cost effectiveness; and make recommendations for contract awards. Perform contract administration duties including: reviewing invoices for contract compliance, accuracy, and supporting documentation; evaluating change orders and contract modifications for cost effectiveness and necessity; and approving or resolving payment discrepancies. Manage contract files according to Metra quality management plan, keep orderly and accurate records of all project related correspondence, and prepare detailed project status reports. Coordinate team's day-to-day activities, assign tasks/projects and monitor performance, and provide guidance and training, but is not a supervisor. Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.Requirements 1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field with an electrical focus from an accredited college or university.2. In addition to 1 above, must have a minimum of eight (8) years experience the design of electrical power distribution systems, electrical systems, lighting, control systems, railroad specific electrical systems; and/or project management experience that includes engineering design or construction of the same. 3. Considerable knowledge of: electrical engineering principles and standards. electrical systems and equipment. specification writing.4. Good knowledge of the National Electric Code, Chicago Building Code, and NFPA standards.5. Knowledge of DC train traction power.6. Considerable skill preparing and interpreting engineering plans, cost estimates, and technical drawings. 7. Good:math, analytical, organizational, and problems solving skills. verbal and written communication skills.inter-personal skills to work with various engineering departments, freight railroads, and governmental agencies. 8. Proficient in:Microsoft Office 365.computer aided design and drafting systems applications, preferably Microstation. 9. Ability to:manage multiple tasks in a demanding environment.work as a team leader or independently on major projects.evaluate complex technical problems and apply engineering knowledge to provide practical and cost-effective solutions. deliver presentations on technical subject matter.lift and move up to 20 pounds.10. Must be:willing to travel within and outside of Metra's 6-county region.available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.
