Job Description:

PPE Design Engineering Manager

The PPE Design Engineering Manager's primary role uses highly developed engineering expertise and project management abilities to contribute to the design and development of new products and support of existing products within the department.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Chief technical resource and mechanical engineering leader on mid/high complexity Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) New Product Development (NPD) projects
  • Provide clear engineering information to Project Leaders and the Global Engineering teams facilitating trade off decisions
  • Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within area of scope in the project with minimal guidance. Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations
  • Able to independently develop, write, and analyze testing reports
  • Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation / mentorship to others
  • Able to effectively manage a technical team and provide technical guidance on complex programs, to achieve cost, performance, and schedule requirements
  • Must be able to personally conduct detailed analyses, or recognize the need and seek the appropriate expertise to achieve the desired results in the following areas:
    • Mechanical stress analysis
    • GD&T, tolerance stack analyses
    • Sound and vibration / response of dynamic systems - preferred
    • Mechanism development and analysis
  • Regularly present engineering project status to stakeholders.
  • Financial acumen including manufacturing cost drivers associated with materials, labor & overhead
  • Talent development
  • Maintains an awareness of competitive offerings and the general business climate in PPE
  • Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of direct reports, including pay administration, setting goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed. Provides performance feedback to cross functional team members for performance reviews.
  • Proactively identifies project risks and implements risk reduction plans
  • Communicates, both verbal and written, to assure all groups are working toward the goal of timely project completion
  • Communicate technical details, ideas, and concepts to engineers and non-engineers in multiple locations
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Biomedical Engineering. Masters preferred.
  • 10 years of design experience
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing engineering departments and new product development teams
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD - ProE, Solidworks, NX, or similar as well as FEA.
  • Strong experience with FEA and GD&T
  • Deep mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical properties and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials
  • Experience with plastics, elastomers, foams, and textiles is preferred
  • Experience with design of PPE and/or highly regulated, safety critical products is preferred
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with biomechanics, biomedical engineering, and ergonomics is preferred
  • Electrical Engineering or electro mechanical project experience is preferred
  • Proficient in Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturability (DFA / DFM) in high volume applications
  • Must be a self-starter, hands-on and able to work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to travel up to 15% (travel includes Domestic and International)
  • Demonstrated interest in safety, PPE, and tools of the construction trades
