Summary:

The main function of a data security administrator is to plan, coordinate, and implement security measures for information systems to regulate access to computer data files and prevent unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure of information. A typical data security administrator is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Train users and promote security awareness to ensure system security and to improve server and network efficiency.
  • Develop plans to safeguard computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs.
  • Confer with users to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations, and programming changes.
  • Monitor current reports of computer viruses to determine when to update virus protection systems.
  • Modify computer security files to incorporate new software, correct errors or change individual access status.
  • Coordinate implementation of computer system plan with establishment personnel and outside vendors.
Skills:
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic ability to work independently and manage one's time.
  • Basic knowledge of circuit boards, processors, electronic equipment and computer hardware and software.
  • Basic knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.

Education/Experience:

  • 2-4 years experience required.
Position's Contributions to Work Group:
  • The candidate will work within a team the processes requests for network policy changes.
  • This role specifically will proactively take requests from a queue and provide a security assessment of the request and how it aligns to Caterpillar network security policies.
  • These requests will be for firewall rules, proxy exceptions, cloud connectivity, or general network security requests.
  • Additional work will include maintenance activities tied to deployed firewall rules.
Typical Day:
  • Process requests from ticket queue and provide policy analysis of the request, resulting in approval or denial of request.
  • Training / helping users submit requests as needed.
  • Communicating with customers verbally and written on policy decisions.
  • Helping users identify alternative solutions to enable their business outcomes that align to Caterpillar policies.
  • Maintenance activities tied to cleanup and validation of existing deployed firewall rules / proxy policies / cloud solutions.
  • Working with a team of about 10 people.
  • Will have weekly team meetings.
  • Always communicating online through teams to problem solve and help process requests.
  • Fast paced and deadline oriented
Education/Experience:
  • Associate's degree in computer programming or relevant field required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years experience in cybersecurity required.
Technical Skills Required:
