Admissions Specialist

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is currently seeking an Admissions Specialist for Faith Mission in Columbus, Ohio. Faith Mission is one of the largest homeless shelters in Columbus, Ohio, providing meals and shelter to men, women and Veterans with dignity and compassion.

An Admissions Specialist will provide admission, screening and needs assessment services to homeless individuals seeking shelter at LSS Faith Mission utilizing Homeless Management Information Systems.

Requirements for an Admissions Specialist with Lutheran Social Services:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency, required.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field, preferred.
  • One to three years' experience providing direct client services, preferred.
  • Ability to acquire & maintain active HMIS Training Certificate for use of HMIS database required along with detailed knowledge of the HMIS database system.
  • Knowledge of community resources pertaining to client base.
  • Experience managing casework for a rapidly changing client base.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products & specific experience with Excel required.
    • Relational database experience, helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to create case notes, action plans and advocacy memorandums, letters, and proposals
Responsibilities for an Admissions Specialist with Lutheran Social Services:
  • Maintain HMIS information, review for accuracy, monitor on-going record evolution and generate client file. Update client bed list notes in HMIS daily and relay pertinent information to shelter staff and clients.
  • Conduct admission and screening interviews with individuals seeking shelter to determine appropriateness and eligibility for specialized shelter programs, including needs assessment and referral to services that best address individual needs.
  • Complete admissions process for incoming residents/clients including establishing clear and concise understanding regarding program expectations, policies and procedures, obtaining appropriate releases, creating individualized service plans.
  • Complete data reporting, back up the HMIS Administrator, and attend CSB required HMIS meetings as requested.
  • Report all Entry/Exit shelter activity to necessary departments and Managers. Upon client exit, all Exit Summary data must be collected, processed and reviewed for accuracy.
  • Data entry of client infractions/incidents based on the shelter activity report to monitor average length of stay.
  • Regular participation in internal audits with respect to data quality to meet established and contracted standards.
  • Audit client files for accuracy.
