We champion reforms to achieve a more effective, ethical, and accountable federal government that safeguards constitutional principles. POGO has an over $7 million annual budget that supports a staff of over 50 employees.

POGO is looking for a talented Director if Information Technology to play a crucial role in advancing POGO's mission by providing strategic leadership on IT and oversight of our IT systems and infrastructure. You will help POGO better leverage technology by being responsible for: developing and implementing IT strategies to support the organization's goals; ensuring the security, compliance, and integrity of our systems and data; and optimizing technology resources to enhance not only operational efficiency but also the impact of our work. This position reports directly to the Vice President (VP) of Finance and Administration.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement IT strategies and initiatives aligned with the organization's mission and other goals.
  • Oversee, manage, and maintain (along with a third-party managed service provider) the organization's day-to-day IT infrastructure and data governance, including all hardware, software, network, cloud-based, and other information technology systems.
  • In collaboration with our legal team, ensure that the organization's use and distribution of technology is in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal / external standards which may include data protection / privacy laws; network, data, and cyber security best practices; internal policies; and digital accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify, acquire, and implement improvements to technology, equipment, and policies that will help the organization operate more efficiently and create greater impact.
  • Manage technology vendor relationships (and work with other departments) to ensure expected deliverables, timely responses, and effective technology solutions and infrastructure are delivered from contractors and other third parties.
  • Coordinate with the VP of Finance and Administration to strategically budget, plan timelines, and allocate resources to most effectively fulfill the organization's IT needs.
  • Offer and provide technical guidance, assistance, and training to staff members as necessary, ensuring smooth operation and utilization of IT resources and policies throughout the organization.
  • Other duties as required to accomplish POGO's mission.
Qualifications include:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT management of remote organizations, preferably at a nonprofit, law firm, or other organizations that deal with similar IT needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern IT systems and infrastructure best practices, including procuring, distributing, and operating hardware, software, networking, and cloud-based platform in a fully remote environment.
  • Proven track record of leading technology projects and initiatives from inception to completion.
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort working in primarily Windows / Microsoft environments, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Azure AD / Entra administration and management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and familiarity with IT security and compliance best practices, including cybersecurity, data protection / privacy, and accessibility.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation, benefits, and other information:

This position is eligible for remote work from anywhere within the United States provided you are available during POGO's work hours of 9AM-6PM in the Eastern Time Zone. Otherwise, the position and POGO are based in Washington, DC.

This is a full-time position and includes the listed benefits:
