DEFINITION: The Security and Communication Systems Specialist performs a variety of complex duties in the installation and maintenance of cameras, phones, voice and network wiring and jacks, troubleshooting and support of Communication Systems in a PBX/VOIP environment.

In addition, this position shall assist in the programming, troubleshooting and configuration of the Communication Systems.

The Security and Communication Systems Specialist will also project manage the wiring of non-construction-related work for Camera, Voice, and Data.

Responsible for maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting and installing security technology to include access control systems, security video systems (CCTV), and intrusion detection systems.

Responsible for the installation and implements and/or performs service for new equipment installation, equipment, or system repairs. Position supports the security solutions business by installing and troubleshooting newly installed electronic security encompassing closed circuit television equipment and devices.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from the Technical Support and Client Services Manager. Exercises no supervision. ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions: Acts as back-up to the Communications Manager for the Administration of all voice-related systems including associated servers and communication devices. Be accessible and able to work after hours to repair service-affecting troubles and upgrades within the telecommunications system. Assists in design and bidding the camera/voice/data wiring of non-construction-related work. Assists in providing Project Management of vendors for non-construction wiring jobs. Performs programming and configuration necessary for additions/changes in all Camera/Voice/Communications systems. Performs administration of the Call Accounting system. Performs physical camera, voice, door access control, and data wiring moves, additions, and changes. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of voice systems. Assists in monitoring telecommunication devices and circuits for efficiency and integrity. Implement, install, reconfigure and/or replace hardware/software enhancements supporting voice systems. Preventative maintenance, repair and documentation of campus emergency call boxes. Helps to maintain college issued cellular phones.

Work via web-based software and with cellular vendor on troubles and changes to account.

Other Important Functions: Installing, Cabling and Programming CCTV Systems. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with multiple low voltage systems. Evaluates, diagnoses, troubleshoots, re-configures, and tests equipment and devices associated and repairs as necessary. Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot technical security systems to include security video systems and computer networking equipment. Assist in maintaining communication system-related materials and supplies. Assist staff and faculty in requisitioning of communication-related hardware and software. Clean, organize, and maintain communication systems facilities and related storage areas. Provide cross-level support when necessitated by limited staffing. Work telecommunications trouble tickets from campus ticket system, document each ticket with progress and solutions. Install and Service new and existing Systems listed above. Apply IT best practices to monitor and troubleshoot security related networking equipment, workstations, servers, and applications. Train security personnel in security technology as needed. Manage and maintain video management system software. Assists with maintaining door access control system. Coordinate security technology vendor visits. Perform system troubleshooting. Be willing to do what is required to complete the required task on any given day. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of: Experience with Security Video Systems/CCTV. XProtect, Milestone experience. Ability to effect physical and software voice wiring moves, additions and changes.

Training and experience working with a

modern

PBX system including voice mail and call accounting. Certification is a plus. Experience with Camera/Voice/Data Structured Cabling System. Certification is a plus. Experience working within a mission-critical, enterprise level security and telecommunications environment. Strong skills in the first-line troubleshooting and repair of wiring systems. Knowledge of basic principles and procedures of record keeping. Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment. Knowledge of Basic arithmetic. Should be a highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Local and Wide Area Networking. Knowledge of Public Address Systems. Long-term experience working within the Telecommunications field. Experience with various network equipment such as switches and routers. Experience with VoIP telephone systems.

Ability To:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum Education/Training:

Associates degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.

Minimum Experience: Five years of field work experience as install or service technician with Low Voltage.

Preferred Education/Training Milestone experience and/or training. XProtect experience and/or training. Industry certification in Structure Wiring such as BICSI Technician or other low voltage certification. Industry certification in a Voice PBX or VOIP system such as Avaya.
