The Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for the strategic leadership of the company's EHSProgram. This position is responsible for development and maintenance of environmental, safety and health policies, processes, and procedures at offices and project sites across all operating regions.

This position oversees and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations. This leader also needs the ability to demonstrate strong strategic vision, resilience, and adaptability. Effective communication, the ability to inspire and align teams, financial acumen, and a focus on operational efficiency and accountability are crucial. This position leads a team of EHS leaders and serves as an integral member of the executive leadership team (ELT), reporting to the CEO, partnering with the operational and corporate support teams, to ensure safety remains the top priority for each and every employee.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with executive leadership and the EHS team to ensure safety is the number one priority for the company and the safety program is consistently applied across the company.
  • Partner closely with business leaders throughout the organization to foster a culture of care, where safety is the number one priority.
  • Work to foster a positive and collaborative culture, emphasizing accountability and teamwork and efforts to increase retention on the team. Drive continuous improvement of the Safety Program and practices across the company.
  • Mentor and train employees across the organization, including guidance to sectors/lines of business on handling compliance, inspections, and citations.
  • Manage, track and report safety and operational metrics regularly and effectively communicate safety statistics directly to leadership, including corporate and site-specific safety KPIs, to allow for data-driven decision-making. Implement new performance metrics to track progress and ensure accountability to efficiency.
  • Provide leadership and support relating to key ESG strategies for the company.
  • Integrate department initiatives with company-wide strategic objectives and collaborate with other support functions.
  • Develop a clear and compelling vision for Shermcos future in collaboration with Operations Leadership team.
  • Develop and maintain an annual safety plan addressing key issues, outlining goals, and setting measurable targets.
  • Work closely with the finance team to understand and determine EHSs role in addressing financial challenges and how to contribute to optimizing the capital structure and improving profit, including but not limited to operating within agreed upon annual budgets.
  • Leveraging data and stakeholder input, quickly understand financials, operations, and culture to identify opportunities for improvement in performance, how the EHS brand is perceived, shared accountability for EHS performance and culture, and how to move EHS resources to provide billable income, where appropriate.
  • Act as an independent reviewer to ensure compliance, health, and safety within the organization leading investigations and providing guidance to resolve potential risk.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including but not limited to owners, investors, regulators and other parties to secure support and alignment with the strategy. Manage relationships with suppliers, customers, and other external partner.
  • Collaborate with industry peers and represent appropriate industry associations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in Occupational Safety, Health, and/or Environmental (or similar
  • EHS experience with another degree, Engineering, Operations Management, etc. ), from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, preferred in both EHS and Operational leadership roles, in a production based company, preferably field services oriented.
  • Extensive experience in electrical safety required with NFPA CESCP (NFPA Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional) a plus. Professional designation such as OHST, ASSP, or CSP is desirable.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing effective large-scale safety programs.
  • Extensive experience handling OSHA investigations and claims
  • Excellent track record of reducing recordable injury and major incident rates.
  • Managed a high-performance team of direct and indirect reports with proven experience in training and mentoring EHS staff.
  • Strong understanding of safety risk assessment, risk mitigation and controls.
  • Exudes a highly credible balance of technical leadership and interpersonal skills to exert influence and network at all levels within the organization.
  • Understands data analytics and use of technology to drive performance.
  • Experience as a trusted advisor and partner providing guidance to business leaders focused on continuously improving the execution of objectives across programs and projects.
  • Agile leadership style with the ability to adjust one's approach to fit the situation.
  • A visible leader who takes a collaborative approach with others and comes across as approachable and understanding with the ability to drive required change across the organization
  • Ability to facilitate change by driving acceptance, and leading initiatives despite initial resistance.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the flexibility to coordinate safety amongst a geographically diverse company.
