Job Functions The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) is responsible working with clients and our project management and engineering teams define project parameters, especially for production scale-ups. The AME provides both a technical and operational link between manufacturing equipment suppliers, Ramboll’s project management and engineering teams, and the client’s production operations staff. This is a role that demands clear understanding of business objectives, the ability to identify performance gaps and the insight, and tenacity to drive improvements to fill those gaps. The AME will work with product designers, industrial engineers, owner manufacturing/process engineers, quality engineers, operational leadership, facilities engineers, and equipment suppliers to develop specification, conduct risk assessments, adjust designs, create documentation, and implement startup, commissioning, and optimization procedures that yield the expected performance goals of the client’s project. Essential functions of the AME role include: Lead development of specifications for capital equipment and integrated manufacturing processes. Facilitate the specification development so that the production and operational requirements are fully vetted, validated, and measurable. Incorporate health and safety requirements into equipment specifications and shop floor methods. Lead review of equipment supplier’s designs against defined technical requirements and provide design feedback. Facilitate machinery and process failure modes and effects analysis in the early stages of equipment design. Lead project team and equipment suppliers in creation of commissioning plans designed to demonstrated, through measurable outcomes, the readiness of newly installed equipment for sustained and robust production. Define implementation schedule for commissioning and optimization process, in coordination with quality validation processes, and work with overall project manager to integrate activities into overall project delivery schedule. Lead execution of commissioning plans and provide progress reports against defined schedule. Provide input to facility design engineers, labor planning functions and production scheduling to support transition from machine construction/commissioning to production operations. Assist the project manager with the completion of manufacturing due diligence assessments. Identifies critical reliability and quality demands for manufacturing processes on new equipment and document operator and maintenance work instructions incorporating those demands. Assist the project manager in coordinating with maintenance, owner manufacturing engineering and production leadership in creating and implementing training programs to qualify personnel on maintenance, operation and optimization of equipment and processes. Provide owner’s manufacturing engineering staff input on methods needed to assure sustained, robust production including incoming material specifications, tooling, and fixturing design and post process inspection methods. Use data-driven methods to identify performance improvement opportunities in newly installed capital equipment. Develop operational and production reports that capture overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) metrics and transfer ownership of ongoing measurement to shop operations. Use data-driven and shop floor methods to identify process improvement opportunities in existing manufacturing facilities. Near Term Contributions · Provide expert technical support during sales engagements, helping to articulate the value and feasibility of proposed engineering solutions to clients. · Collaborate with sales teams to assess client needs and technical requirements, accurately reflecting our unique value to clients. · Assist in developing and refining sales strategies for advanced manufacturing and sustainability projects. · Advise project teams in the integration of smart technologies that have demonstrable value to clients. · Act as a bridge for knowledge transfer between clients and Ramboll project teams. · Serve as an advisor to clients, especially in the areas of supply chain management, process optimization, scale-up from pilot to production, and integration of green technologies. · Provide clients with financial and technical analyses that support decision-making, especially for investments in new technologies or processes. · Actively engage in securing new projects by demonstrating our understanding of client needs and aligning them with our capabilities. · Lead the delivery of customer projects from inception through completion for projects involving advanced manufacturing engineering deliverables. · Mentor process and advanced manufacturing engineering staff on the client’s mindset and in delivering economically viable solutions. · Directly contributing to sustainable design options within industrial solutions. To be effective, the AME must work with staff from a broad range of disciplines in the manufacturing environment. The personal characteristics of the AME should include: Self-motivated Team oriented Strong analytical capabilities with decisions driven by data and objective criteria. Broad understanding of manufacturing technologies including control systems functions, mechanical systems, quality and industrial engineering methods, shop scheduling and product design. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Able to pivot from periods of hands-on shop floor engagement to deliberative effort analyzing data and creating or reviewing documentation. Strong systems thinking, understanding the impact of interdependency and variability on production output. Qualifications and Experience B.S. in relevant engineering discipline. Years of experience may offset educational requirements. 10+ years of experience in discrete manufacturing engineering and operations. Training in lean and/or six sigma quality methodologies and familiarity with industrial engineering methods. Strong analytical skills including ability to interrogate large sets of data and identify patterns that inform design or operations decisions. Proficient in MS Office tools. Proficient in reading and interpreting machine design drawings and specifications. Ability to manipulate, comment and/or edit CAD drawings (2D or 3D) is a plus.
