About the Role:
This position coordinates the importation of shipments in compliance with US Customs rules and regulations and expedites them to the ultimate destination. Incumbents function as an in-house Customs Broker, responsible for the collection, organization, presentation to US Customs of all documentation required for import clearance, and the retention of same. Incumbents audit entry documentation for accuracy, then prepare and file the required information directly in the US Customs trade platform. Entries are monitored until approved by US Customs. Errors/issues are addressed and proper duty payment insured. Ocean/air freight invoices, inland freight invoices and any fees for associated services are approved for payment.

This position is location in the the Oxford Lyons, GA administration office with the general expectation of onsite work during normal M-F business hours.

Responsibilities:
  • Compile and file import entries directly in the US Customs trade platform.
  • Conduct pre-entry audits of entry documentation, including valuation.
  • Maintain files of all associated documentation by Entry Number. Advise import manager and the associated business unit of compliance issues.
  • Address any entry discrepancies, correct any errors, and manage the process from filing, release of cargo and payment of duty to ensure all steps are completed according to US Customs regulations.
  • Track and set up delivery for all import shipments via communication with assigned business unit staff, freight forwarders, ocean and inland carriers. Provide regularly-updated delivery information to assigned business unit staff. Address any identified delivery exceptions or missing status information.
  • With the assistance of the Import Manager, review all style classifications in accordance with the HTSUS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States) and related US Customs guidance.
  • Authorize payment for all freight invoices and associated 3rd party logistics fees.
  • For business units using ABS, tie entry number to ABS cut number to generate entered units versus received units. Prints warehouse receiving information from ABS to complete entry file.
  • Maintain import file archives in compliance with US Customs regulations.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma plus training or equivalent work experience in importing or logistics.
  • 3+ years' prior office work experience, preferably in imports or logistics or a position that requires compiling data for accurate entry into a database (e.g. insurance, tax preparation, banking).
  • Computer skills to include MS Office suite are required.
  • Detail oriented and able to follow instructions
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated mathematical ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse cultures.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both oral and written.
