Job Description:

Lead Engineer

This position is located in Winamac, Indiana

General Purpose:

This Lead Engineer position is a vital role in the BraunAbility Vehicle Engineering team. A primary focus will be solving technical problems utilizing robust root cause techniques in complex mechanical and vehicle systems, as well as verifying and implementing solutions. The scope of projects will range from "hardy perennials" as well as supporting urgent problems that were just discovered in both existing and new product. Design and engineering of products in cross-functional teams is also a key activity of this position.

Essential Functions:

•Proven Practitioner of root cause analysis using Six Sigma and Shainin Problem Solving Tools and techniques. Able to efficiently work problems backwards by letting the parts focus your actions.

•Rigor and Commitment towards solving problems and putting the customer(s) first.

•Confident engineering skills to find issues, with strong listening skills to be able to work with others to gather information and solve problems.

•Ability to form a functional team using the assets of others and can self-guide chaos and communicate effectively to all levels of management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

•Key Attributes:

o Strong understanding of physics of mechanical systems (hydraulics, gear design, statics and dynamics, control systems, strength of materials and material properties).

o Perform Pareto Analysis of manufacturing losses to prioritize problems to be solved to eliminate malfunctions and unacceptable product performance, and rapidly reduce losses.

o Understand and develop measurement repeatability, reproducibility, and discrimination that reflects the range of performance between acceptable and unacceptable.

o Understands "Y to X" thinking (let the effects (Y) lead to the cause (X) vs listing all possible causes). Also proficient at clue generation and variable reduction.

o Understand, develop, and analyze descriptive multi-Vari charts.

o Proficient in failure analysis from failed parts.

o Experience with Full Factorial Experiments and Design of Experiments.

o Determine and implement corrective actions. Improve/Design/Redesign product to eliminate the failure mode.

o Six Sigma Black Belt - Problem Solver / Practitioner

o Shanin Red-X Master - Problem Solver / Practitioner

•Working knowledge on a wide array of Engineering Tasks:

o Analysis

o Root Cause

o Troubleshooting

o Problem-Solving

o Quality, Design and Validation tools including:

§ FEA, DFA/M, DOE, D/PFMEA, DVP&R, (8D or similar), GD&T and Tolerance Stack-up.

o Lesson Learned / Best Practices

o Machine Design & Fabrication

Minimum Qualifications:

•Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.

•Minimum of 10 years of engineering work experience to include 5 years of direct experience working on problem-solving, ideally in the automotive industry.

•Manufacturing Experience (Proficient Working Knowledge... Near Expert Level of Knowledge) required.

•Mechanism Design knowledge is a must, expertise preferred, and how to integrate it into the design, considering all Tolerances involved needed.

•Knowledge of materials and benefits of utilizing one type over the other needed.

•Exceptional Problem-Solving, troubleshooting, and critical thinking skills required.

•Previous assembly plant launch experience preferred.

•Dimensional Management and Understanding of GD&T required.

•Experience with Mechanism, Steel, Aluminum & Plastic/Composites part design and manufacturing required.

•Desired training and proficiency: Shainin Red X Master Black Belt or Black Belt/(formerly "Journeyman"), Six Sigma / DMAIC Blackbelt.
