MISSION: Liberty Christian Academy exists to support parents and guardians in their biblical responsibility to nurture and train their children. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Middle School Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, and child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Holds a Master's Degree
  • Meets the certification requirement for ACSI and VDOE in the administrative area
  • Have at least three years of teaching experience and two years of administrative experience
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Bible
  • Be of outstanding Christian character and witness
  • Have a sound Christian philosophy of education
  • Have a thorough understanding of the nature and development of their respective students
  • Have a thorough background in their respective curriculum
  • Have the ability to observe, evaluate, and provide direction to teachers and non-teaching personnel at their respective levels
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are the responsibilities of the Middle School Assistant Principal in relation to:

SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP -
  • Act as the spiritual leader of school and community.
  • Show evidence of a consistent time of personal Bible study, prayer and outreach.
  • Maintain a Christ-like attitude.
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT -
  • Encourage and support the development of the instructional program.
  • Work with administration on WSAT, QMAT, and IOWA data and data disaggregation.
  • Support the principal in the collaborative development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the school's Plan for Continuous Improvement (ACSI).
  • Supervise teachers and departments as assigned by the principal.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL CLIMATE -
  • Assists in the promotion of positive school climate and staff morale through recognition programs and honoring those who excel.
  • Assist in developing guidelines for student conduct and implement appropriate disciplinary action.
  • Assist in the monitoring of student attendance.
  • Explain and interpret division-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, pupils, and the community.
  • Assist with interviews of new families.
  • Organizes and directs cafeteria supervision during lunch periods.
  • Assumes responsibility for implementing discipline procedures as stated in the Student Handbook.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT -
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a systematic method of supervising the instructional program through the use of informal observations, observations, documentation, and follow-up conferences.
  • Assists in the orientation of new staff members to the teaching environment at the middle school, especially as it relates to the area of students, personnel policy and procedures and general building practices.
  • Supports teachers who have students with behavior problems.
  • Participate in interviewing and selecting process of new teachers and staff.
  • Promotes good school-parent relationships when discussing specific student problems with parents.
  • Assists in organizing parent conferences, back-to-school nights and other times when staff is available to parents to discuss their child's learning and behavior.
  • Assist in planning staff development activities and meetings.
  • Assists with student orientation.
  • Supports substitute teachers in carrying out their duties.
  • Supervises administrative detention for students.
  • Communicate with staff/parents/students to address and resolve academic, social, behavioral, or spiritual issues.
FACILITIES MANAGEMENT -
  • Supervise operations in the principal's absence.
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of duty lists, teacher assignments, and activity schedules.
  • Daily supervisory duties, such as lunch duty, hall duty, etc.
ACADEMIC GUIDANCE -
  • Supervision and monitoring of FACTS Family Portal and Google Classroom.
  • Support the academic program at LCA.
  • Work with the guidance counselor to implement a plan for struggling students.
  • Provide in planning, coordinating activities such as transition meetings, Meet and Greet, and other programs.
