Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner FT " overnight call position

JOB TITLE Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner SUMMARY: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner performs in an expanded role and practices based upon protocols that are established and approved by a physician who serves as a supervisor for the mid-level practitioner. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required or professionally recognized physician assistant program required. Licensure: Must have or be eligible for licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner valid in the state(s) of practice. Certification: Completion of NLN accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner required. Experience: Experience as a staff nurse, nurse practitioner or physician's assistant preferred. Knowledge/Skills: CPR training. Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Verbal/written communication skills. EQUIPMENT: Computer and any other equipment required to perform the functions of the position. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conducts psychiatric evaluations, both brief and extensive for adult, children, and/or adolescent clients under established protocols with the supervising physician. 2. Provides psychiatric management of clients through participation in multidisciplinary treatment planning process and under supervision of a physician. 3. Serves as a resource person to other clinical staff regarding psychiatric issues. 4. Interacts with referral sources, particularly medical referral sources, in such a way as to enhance patient care and positive community relationships. 5. Complete accurately and timely medical records in accordance with the standards of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and other applicable accrediting, licensing, utilization review and payor agencies. 6. Comply with relevant Frontier Health reimbursement rules and regulations as applicable. 7. Provide effective communication with Frontier Health staff, and regulatory agencies, managed care organizations, patients, and families in a appropriate and timely manner. 8. Maintains current knowledge of available resources for client population and actively coordinates services with clinical staff. 9. Maintains knowledge of agency policy and procedures, especially as they relate to functions of this position in timely documentation, necessary assessments, patient medication education, lab work, and sample medicating. 10. Assist in management of complex/high acuity clients by providing direct service or through mentoring, consultation with, and support of nurse practitioners without psychiatric mental health certification. 11. Records ideas concisely and clearly and in a timely manner in keeping with clinical records standards. 12. Must possess knowledge of human behavior, psychopathology and understanding of the relations of family and community on the individual. 13. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meeting and inservices and individual program planning staffings as needed. 14. Responsible for continually upgrading knowledge and skills to maintain certification. 15. Gears patient education to age and comprehension level of patient. 16. All other duties as assigned. Follow all Frontier Health rules, policies and procedures as well as any applicable laws and standards. 1) After hours call for Virginia (Hawthorn) 23-hour program Monday- Saturday morning, 5PM to 8AM each day (5 consecutive days). 2) After hours call for Turning Point & Willow Ridge, Monday -Saturday morning, 5PM to 8AM each day (5 consecutive days). 3) After hours virtual assessments for Hawthorn, Virginias 23-hour observation program. Assessments must be completed within DBHDS required time frame for admission to 23-hour observation. 4) During After-hours call time, complete H&Ps for Turning Point/ Willow as needed (virtually) to assist FT Day Providers when experiencing high volume or to bridge the absence of one regular FT Nurse Practitioner. 5) One weekend round and call per month, to include one Saturday and one Sunday of rounding and call, or 12 weekends per year. This will include Virginias 23-hour program, as well as Turning Point and Willow Ridge. 6) During the weekday shifts totaling 15 hours per shift, absence from one shift will equal one PTO day, or 8 hours of PTO. Absence from a weekend/ Call/Rounding shift will also equal 8 hours of PTO per day. The one weekend call/ rounding can be made up, with the approval of the Sr. VP but must include 12 weekends per year and meet the needs of the programs. 7) In the event of a nursing staffing shortage resulting in only one nurse being present in the Building at Turning Point, the NP will report on site during the call shift.
