Responsibilities:

  1. Fabricating parts with CNC mills, CNC lathes, CNC routers, manual machine equipment, lasers, 3D Printers and waterjets
  2. Capable of producing parts with -- in some cases 0.020mm or tighter -- critical tolerances
  3. Read schematics, diagrams, and technical drawings to determine methods of manufacturing and assembly
  4. Recognize the need and develop, design and build appropriate tooling and fixtures
  5. Gather and prepare tools and materials required to complete projects
  6. Capable of managing multiple concurrent projects on tight timelines
  7. Maintain machine shop and fabrication equipment
  8. Proactively maintain supplies of hardware components, equipment, etc. to Googles expectations. Highlight all potential shortages and proactively work to ensure minimal interruption
  9. Assembly of precision electro/mechanical systems including tight tolerance mechanical assemblies
  10. Align, fit, and assemble component parts, using hand tools, power tools, fixtures and appropriate shop tools
  11. Cover all aspects of a project's requirements from conceptual design, 3D CAD, drafting, fabrication to assembly
  12. Have a firm understanding of a variety of materials and their properties.
  13. Utilize this knowledge to make informed decisions on materials to use for components.

Job Title: Machinist, GDM Robotics

Role: Google DeepMind is looking for a world class prototype machinist to help bring audacious ideas to life. You will be part of a small and nimble team that develops functional prototypes of next generation technologies. Emphasis is on speed and precision using conventional and CNC mills and lathes.

Minimum Qualifications:

5+ years experience using conventional mills, lathes, and other standard shop equipment

5+ years experience 2.5D & 3D CNC machining in a variety of materials, including VMC, slant bed lathes and CN routers

Proficient with at least one 3D CAD modeling, preferably OnShape or SolidWorks

Proficient with at least one CAM package

High accuracy 3D surfacing toolpaths

Capable of producing parts with critical tolerances; in some cases 0.020mm or tighter

Fixture & assembly design and fabrication

Familiar with laser cutting and engraving

Familiar with 3D printing

Excellent general fabrication skills across a range of materials and processes

Capable of managing multiple concurrent projects on tight timelines

Creative problem solver, enjoys the challenge of creating something new
