Duration: 9 month contract

As a Biomedical Engineer supporting the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), National Biomedical Contractor Support Services IDIQ project, you will be trusted to provide exceptional health care that improves Veteran health and well-being. The ideal Biomedical Engineer will perform duties related to technology assessment, technology implementation, and healthcare consulting that support the VAs Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM). The Cerner Corporations electronic health record (EHR) will replace the VAs existing EHR. The Biomedical Engineer will assist in the medical device integration and interfacing with selected clinical systems for a more seamless diagnosis and care documentation process.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Biomedical equipment and device procurement package creation, development, staffing, and support for equipment and device replacement, modernization, networking/network connectivity and system upgrades.
  • Biomedical equipment, devices, system procurement package creation, development, and support for medical system configuration changes and testing for interfaces with the Cerner electronic health record.
  • On-site project management for biomedical equipment, device, and system replacement, modernization, and configuration changes leading to medical device and system integration with the Cerner electronic health record.
  • On-site project management for all related task performance and tracking performed by BMET/BESS staff to achieve medical device and systems integration with the Cerner electronic health record.

Project Details:

Purpose of this task order is to provide technical and professional support of medical equipment projects. Projects may include but are not limited to:

  • Replacing AGFA IMPAX with AGFA EI
  • Replacing Arjo patient lifts with Guldmann patient lifts
  • Replacing Cadwell Arc EEG with Natus EEG
  • Replacing Natus Sandman system with Natus Sleepworks solution
  • Replacing Nihon Kohden patient monitoring with Philips patient monitoring
  • Replacing Philips XPER with GE MacLab Altix
  • Replacing UTECH Endosoft with Provation MD
  • Replacing Volpara MRS 7 with Magview
  • Upgrading CIS/ARK from Picis 8.6 to Picis 10
  • Upgrading Data Innovations from version 8.16 to version 9
  • Upgrading Siemens Syngoo to a VM

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills and Experience

  • A Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering OR Certification as a Clinical Engineer (CCE) OR Certification as a Certified Biomedical Engineering Technician (CBET) with combination of years of experience.
  • A minimum of three years of hospital or healthcare experience maintaining medical equipment or managing a hospital medical equipment program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts related to computer based medical systems, networking protocols, and information security as it applies to medical technology within VHA.
  • Demonstrated competency in the ability to conduct a medical equipment management program that is compliant with applicable healthcare standards and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to develop a curriculum for a continuing education program that address the safe and effective use of medical technology.
  • Ability to manage a recall and safety alert program for medical devices, including medical device hazard investigations, to assure compliance with patient safety goals, SMDA, and TJC requirements.
  • Ability to conduct capital asset and infrastructure planning for medical equipment spanning initial concept, installation, and effective implementation of complex medical equipment.
  • Ability to function as the subject matter expert in the field of biomedical engineering, directly supporting specialized clinical technology, including service, system administration, training, quality assurance, and life-cycle management.
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies requirements, industry regulatory requirements and International Standard Organization standards
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
