Job Description

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a skilled and experienced Mid-Career Electrical Engineer to join our design engineering group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in design engineering and/or facility engineering, with a proven track record of success in delivering high-quality projects.

The design team provides support and works with Project Management and Facility/Project Engineers in assessing, maintaining, upgrading and renovation of facility systems at SRNL.

Responsibilities

As a design engineer in this team, you will be responsible for: Lead the design and development of electrical systems for a variety of projects. Utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) to create detailed electrical drawings and schematics. Perform power systems analysis using ETAP software to ensure system reliability and compliance with regulatory standards. Perform engineering studies including system logic diagrams, short circuit, device coordination, equipment sizing, lighting calculations, fault current, and arc flash for both medium and low voltage equipment. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, structural engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless project execution. Conduct design reviews to solicit feedback and ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. Manage subcontractors and vendors throughout the project lifecycle, including sourcing, contracting, and overseeing work quality. Collaborate with facility engineering teams to design and optimize electrical systems for efficiency, reliability, and safety. Provide technical expertise and support during project implementation, troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred; from an ABET accredited university is required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design engineering and/or facility engineering. Employee will be required to climb stairs and ladders, support work in radiological areas, and be present on field walkdowns indoors and outdoors, have the ability to develop and work to a schedule, as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical) & ETAP software. Experience managing subcontractors & vendors, including performance evaluation. Knowledge of energy efficiency & sustainability principles in electrical design. Experience with relay coordination studies & arc flash analysis. Familiarity with PLC programming & control systems design. knowledgeable in industry, regulatory, or national codes and standards including IBC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, & administrative practices (i.e. Lock Out/Tag Out for safe energization state). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting tight deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
