Job Summary:
The Controller will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain control systems to report accurate financial results. This role requires a detail-oriented, reliable professional who is capable of managing complex accounting activities and providing leadership to the accounting team.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
- Manage all accounting staff and operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost and project accounting, inventory accounting, payroll and revenue recognition.
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements and work in process.
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close process.
- Liaise with external auditors to ensure appropriate monitoring of company finances is maintained.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with finance and accounting regulations and standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting and finance experience.
- Experience in the construction or heavy civil engineering industry is highly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Experience with accounting software and databases; Vista / Trimble products preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
