This position is a temporary full time position, Mon-Fri with occasional weekends may be required, 37.5 hours per week, and will begin in April 2024 and continue through the end of September 2024, with the possibility to convert to full time regular employee after six months of continuous service.

WAGES AND BENEFITS

This hourly rate of pay is $22.56 per hour. The cost of premiums covered for First Stop Health for all employees; health insurance; generous employer contributions to a Health Savings Account for High Deductible enrollment; and dental; participation in the agency-sponsored retirement plan with up to 3% employer match program; employer-paid life insurance; short- and long-term disability insurance; 10 employer paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per year; plus, many more

A Typical Day in the Life...

The Refugee Services Employment Counselor will provide employment services for refugees, asylees, and other eligible immigrants. Participants receive job counseling to find permanent employment in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. This position works closely with clients to acquire or maintain employment through initial job placements to help participants enter the workforce or to help participants improve economic stability through career advancement. In addition to employment counseling and assistance, clients may receive financial or in-kind support to overcome barriers to employment. The Employment Counselor will also work to develop exceptional workforce and community connections in order to meet the employment and social service needs of CAPI's participants, and will include the following:
  • Provides culturally informed employment advice and assistance to newly arrived immigrant clients
  • Determines program eligibility of participants through formal and informal inquiry and screening, completes enrollment paperwork per program requirements
  • Works with employable adults to create individualized employment plans, attain employment goals, address barriers to employment, and identify and make use of appropriate community resources
  • Well versed in program outputs and outcomes; are continually documenting their outputs and outcomes; and are committed to continuous improvement
  • Maintains detailed client records and provides timely and accurate case notes and progress reports to program manager and on client databases
  • Supports CAPI's agency-wide Civic Engagement and Public Policy values and initiatives and incorporates civic engagement and Public Policy into routine case management work
  • Participates in voter registration and pledge drives, educational/outreach initiatives, GOTV activities and Public Policy initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
Who You Are
  • 4-year degree in psychology, sociology, behavioral science or a related field to human services OR a combination of demonstrably equivalent education and experience
  • At least 2 years of non-profit experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Fluency in English; preferred fluency in either (or both) Pashto & Dari
  • Experience working with diverse communities; preferred familiarity with resettlement processes
  • Experience in employment counseling or case management preferred
  • Ability to create and execute outreach plans; proven sense of motivation and initiative; sound employer/human resources contacts preferred
  • Ability to record and maintain accurate case management records and database reporting
  • Your schedule allows you to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
  • You have a valid MN driver's license, proof of auto insurance, and the ability to meet CAPI's driving record requirements. Dependable transportation is required to conduct site visits and willingness to transport clients
