As a Manufacturing Engineer on the Operations Engineering team, you will drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) & Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives during the development and launch phases for NPI projects and other critical aspects throughout the phase gate process. You will report to the Operations Implementation Engineering Manager, building a strong relationship with contract manufacturers (CM) and critical sub-tier suppliers while working closely with the operations teams and manufacturing, hardware, electrical, and software engineering. This role is critical to ensure Markforged devices are designed for high-volume manufacturing.Responsibilities:Lead and manage critical aspects of domestic manufacturing operations and collaborate with international partners.Develop and refine work and test instructions for safety, efficiency, and product quality.Provide expert feedback on CAD drawings (Solidworks) and design specifications, focusing on manufacturability. Lead design review sessions.Oversee engineering change orders (ECO), assessing their impact and driving improvements.Lead the design and optimization of assembly and test fixtures, tooling, and custom machinery.Manage product data, revisions, and documentation using PLM software.Build and maintain relationships with domestic and international contract manufacturers.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and resolve manufacturing challenges.Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.Drive DFM and DFA initiatives through the NPI phase gate process.Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, and DFM/DFA reviews during the development phase.Support process qualifications, capability studies, and calibration and testing of hardware and software.Qualifications:BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; MS preferred.5+ years of experience in an electromechanical manufacturing environment.Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.Expertise in PLM software and complex data management.Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.Willingness to travel domestically and up to 15% internationally.Technical troubleshooting skills with a focus on manufacturing processes.Experience in writing technical documents and familiarity with database tools (JIRA is a plus).Knowledge of change control systems (EPDM, Github, ERP, and PLM systems).Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Fusion360, SolidWorks, Onshape, etc.).Experience with Linux-based PCs and some Python experience is a plus.Tool design or tool-making experience for production stamping, plastic injection mold, and/or die-cast tooling.Proven track record of taking products from NPI to high-volume production.Passion for manufacturing, automation, and continuous improvement.Ability to independently lead cross-functional projects to completion.Familiarity with developing testing methods for hardware/software-integrated products.Sharp analytical and mechanical mindset, wanting to apply them to real-world manufacturing problems.Experience with production best practices such as LEAN, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma.#fulltime #LI-onsiteWhy Markforged?Help us reinvent manufacturing.
