Job Summary:Perform hand and machine polishing of a repetitive nature to obtain finish and luster on natural and/or plated hinges using polishing lathes, face, knuckle and flat polisher and automatic polisher; use and maintain abrasive and polishing wheels; dress and balance wheels.Duties/Responsibilities:Select and secure wheels and belts on polishing machines; dress and balance wheels; select and apply polishing compounds.Select abrasive and grain size best suited for material types and finish requirements.Apply and manipulate work to abrasive and polishing wheels, varying pressure, and position to grind, polish, buff and glaze surface and contours to bring out the required finish.Examine hinge for acceptability of finish and check hinge on the spectrophotometer. Adjust or change out belts, wheels or compounds as required.Reading of routing slip.Follow all safety and environmental procedures.Perform other related duties as assigned or required.Education/Knowledge: High school or general equivalent diploma (GED).Skills: Requires ability to read and write English, comprehend oral and written instruction, and add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals and fractions.Machines/Tools/Equipment/Work Aids: Which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position. Polisher/Buffers use a variety of tools and equipment, including polishing lathes, buffing lathes, automatic buffer, automatic face, knuckle polisher, polishing belts, buffer wheels, and buffing compounds.Physical Requirements: Physical demands commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job require the ability to stand, walk, reach, push, pull, grasp, talk, hear, and see. The employee is required to lift over 25 to 60 pounds occasionally and/or 5 to 25 pounds frequently and/or 1 to 5 pounds continuously from floor to waist and move a distance of 1 to 2 feet.
