Position Summary

The Quality Engineer, under the direction of the site Quality Assurance Manager, ensures compliance with the company ISO 9001 Quality Management System. The Quality Engineer will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of continuous improvement projects throughout the various manufacturing processes. These activities will contribute to world class performance in the manufacture of products to meet both internal and external specifications.

Key Responsibilities

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Support manufacturing with resolution of quality issues via root cause analysis, corrective and preventative action processes, related to both internal and external customers.
  • Participates and / or leads strategic projects, improving product quality, waste reduction and operational efficiencies.
  • Support the Quality Management System, as applicable.
  • Facilitates measurement systems analysis (MSA) to ensure consistent results within and between manufacturing facilities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of inspection plans.
  • Participate and / or lead internal audits, as defined by the quality management system.
  • Shop floor surveillance to compliance to internal procedures / standards and customer requirements.
  • Analysis of production / quality data to implement continuous improvement actions.
  • Provide support for the implementation and sustaining of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Participation on design teams for product development (raw materials and finished goods), where qualification / validation is required.
  • Assists Quality Technicians with daily tasks and conducts training, when required.
  • Leads multi-site process improvement teams in support of the site Quality Assurance Managers.
  • Assists Quality and Sourcing in monitoring, reporting and resolving supplier quality concerns.
  • Perform other related projects and activities, as assigned.

  • Physical Requirements:
    • Works in an office, lab and manufacturing environment.
    • Flexible hours may be required to accommodate meetings, trainings, etc.
    • Prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory in all laboratory and manufacturing areas.
  • Management Responsibilities Level: Individual Contributor
  • Reports to: Plant Quality Manager
  • Travel: up to 15% travel required
Selection Criteria:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    • Six Sigma Green and/or Black Belt strongly preferred; if not, willing to pursue.
    • ASQ Certification strongly preferred - Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor, etc.; if not, willing to pursue.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years experience in a Quality Engineering and/or Continuous Improvement role.
    • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
    • Ability to effectively develop and perform qualifications/validations, FMEA, root cause analysis, Gauge R&R, and design of experiments.
    • Ability to lead, instruct and facilitate problem-solving events with all levels of the manufacturing team.
    • Strong statistical background and working knowledge of SPC software (Minitab preferred).
    • Ability to work cross-functionally with Process Engineering, Operations, and Product Development.
    • Must be results-oriented, multi-tasking, and able to respond to urgent needs and deadlines.
    • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills are required.
    • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a team environment.
    • Detail oriented and results-driven with highly effective decision-making skills.
    • Proficient with computer skills and business-related computer software programs.
