EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and general computer operation is required.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license.
- High School Diploma/GED or one (1) equivalent experience without a degree.
- Requires basic understanding of mailroom procedures and equipment.
- Must have basic typing and data entry skills.
- Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Assist supervisor with the tracking and ordering of supplies.
- Coordinate and discuss any contractual issues with the Supervisor.
- Receive and sort incoming and outgoing correspondence, mail, and packages for Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Sorts and distributes to the proper locations.
- Receive, sort, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing interdepartmental mail for MSFC and provides document distribution support for center-wide personnel.
- Receive and sort outgoing U.S. mail, and process for delivery to U.S. Postal Service.
- Process all classes of mail including express mail or private carriers to ensure adherence to proper size, weight, package, postage, and other postal requirements.
- Receive and process incoming and outgoing certified, registered, express, and international mail and parcels according to postal regulations.
- Receive and sign special delivery mail and parcels according to postal regulations and notify customers items are available for pick up in the mailroom.
- Locate proper addresses and make corrections for mislabeled or misdirected mail, and forwards student mail.
- Scan and inspect all mail that physically fits through the Government-furnished x-ray equipment to identify any suspicious contents.
- Keep current and update Standard Distribution List (SDL) via MSFC Administrative Officers input.
- Keep current and update the Mail Stop Report, Contractor's POC List, and contact the appropriate official to update NASA Mail Lockers.
- Maintain knowledge and proficiency for full compliance with USPS, NASA, and Company standards and procedures.
- Interact with all personnel at MSFC in a professional and courteous manner.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY:
Processes incoming and outgoing mail according to standards and under minimum supervision. Distribute and collect mail. Deliver mail to various locations outside and within Marshall Space Flight Center. Provide document distribution support for center-wide personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Receive, prepare, sort and distribute mail in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
- Operate mail metering equipment.
- Prepare documents and keep records in accordance with the PWS.
- Performs mailroom operations in an effective, efficient and safe manner, in strict compliance with all safety and security regulations.
- Understand the proper way to use the X-ray machine.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO THIS POSITION MAY INCLUDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Arrive on time and ready to work assigned schedule.
- Provide high level of customer service to all patrons, coworkers, and other interested parties.
- Perform mailroom operations in accordance with (PWS) requirements and site-specific guidelines.
- Take direction, interact, and maintain open communication with supervisor/lead.
- Support the company vision, values, and quality program controls.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Adequate hearing required for conversation, telephone use, and emergency information systems.
- Ability to be independently mobile on all surfaces and situations
- Ability to move safely about work area.
- Ability to retrieve items from high and low areas
- Ability to perceive size, discrimination, temperature, shapes, and/or textures
- Physical stamina to work at least 8 hours per day.
- Physically able to lift boxes and packages weighing up to 70 pounds using proper equipment and lifting techniques.
- Work environment is both inside and outside company facility locations with a significant portion of time spent driving company vehicle(s) and working in all types of weather.
- Consistent sitting, walking, and carrying routing lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
- Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, except for an x-ray machine for package scanning, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
