Description

The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the stewardship of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South. The Collection is currently accepting resumes for the position of Major Gifts & Stewardship Officer.

The position of the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for developing, managing, implementing, and overseeing strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of approximately 75-100 donors. The Major Gifts Officer will create individualized solicitation plans leading to major outright and deferred gifts of $50,000+, as well as integrating annual, capital, and planned gifts. The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Director of Development, and works closely with the Director of Institutional Advancement, in addition to the President & C.E.O. to develop and implement key fundraising strategies and activities.

The ideal candidate must have a sincere and sustained interest in New Orleans's and Louisiana's unique history and a minimum of five years of direct and successful fundraising experience, including a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with major, capital, and deferred gifts at a institution of record.

This is a full-time position. The work hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and may require some weekends and/or time outside of the typical working hours. The Collection offers a competitive salary and a dynamic, educational culture.

Job Summary:

The Major Gifts Major Gifts & Stewardship Officer will work closely with the Director of Development, the Director of Institutional Advancement, and the President & C.E.O. to develop and implement key fundraising strategies and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The below duties and responsibilities are essential core functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Research, identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward special and leadership gifts from a managed portfolio of 75-100 prospects and donors with capacity to make gifts of $50,000 and more, including individuals and institutions. Face-to-face solicitations are required.
  • Advance individual relationships that result in 5, 6, and 7-figure philanthropic contributions, including annual, capital, and planned gifts/bequests.
  • Visit 10+ donors/prospects monthly along with significant phone, text and email outreach.
  • Gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies designed to realize the current and life-time giving potential of individual prospects.
  • Meet agreed-upon fundraising goals and metrics by identifying and working with major gift prospects through successful gift closings.
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate donor contact, facilitate or make solicitations, and ensure effective stewardship.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the priorities of the institution and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific HNOC needs by articulating HNOC's mission, programs, and activities in a succinct and compelling manner.
  • Coordinate specialized appeals targeted at constituent groups associated with a particular exhibition, program or initiative.
  • Collaborate across the institution to develop ideas that translate THNOC's fund-raising priorities into gift proposals and to advance major gift prospects.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of special events.
  • Submit timely contact reports for each visit with detailed briefing papers.
  • Actively participate in Development team meetings to coordinate prospect review and discuss specific prospect strategies as they relate to prioritized fundraising needs.
Job Qualifications:

Below are the minimum requirements necessary for this position.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree and/or CFRE certification are preferred)
Experience:
  • 5+years of direct and successful fundraising experience, including a minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience with major, capital, and deferred gifts at a institution of record.
Knowledge, Skills Abilities:
  • Proven ability to secure 6 and 7 figure gifts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required, both written and oral, as well as a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to donor cultivation and stewardship, able to work both independently and as part of a multifaceted team.
  • Willingness and ability travel, as well as work some nights and/or weekends as required to meet with donors and prospective donors.
  • Discretion and an ability to interact with high-level donors and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to be an effective advocate for the institution.
  • Willingness to comply with HNOC's policies and procedures, including a hybrid work environment.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with various planned-giving vehicles is preferred.
  • Experience in fundraising at a complex cultural institution is preferred.

Salary Description

$71,300 to $82,100 annually
