A health services network in New York City is currently seeking a new, licensed Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) to join their growing Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team as their new Substance Abuse Specialist.

Responsibilities

The Substance Abuse Specialist (CASAC) will:

  • Lead the ACT team in clinical meetings addressing substance abuse issues and integrate findings into service plans
  • Lead the ACT team's Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) initiatives
  • Identify appropriate ACT services for clients based on the severity of substance use diagnosis, stage of change, and immediate needs
  • Conduct substance use assessments and diagnose substance use disorders
  • Promote harm reduction strategies and apply assertive outreach and stage-wise treatment approaches.
  • Conduct assessments to determine the level of risk for substance use and associated harmful behaviors
  • Recommend appropriate interventions to facilitate recovery.
  • Determine when a client's severity of substance abuse necessitates Inpatient Rehabilitation, Medically Managed Detoxification, Chemical Dependence Medically Supervised Inpatient and Outpatient Withdrawal, or other OASAS licensed programs and harm reduction strategies.
  • Make referrals to external substance use interventions and act as a liaison and advocate for clients requiring such services.
  • Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in a Human Services-related role/field
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) license
  • Experience working with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) populations
  • Extensive knowledge of Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Community Integrated Treatment approaches, Support Services, and Available Resources
