**Job Purpose**

The Sr. Buyer coordinates the procurement activities of materials, both direct and indirect, that support the manufacturing of all Whip Mix branded products and some Private Label products produced by Whip Mix. The Sr. Buyer will negotiate contracts and agreements, issue purchase orders and develop supplier relationships that are consistent with all stated Whip Mix goals and objectives. The Sr. Buyer will work with the supply base to ensure materials are delivered to Whip Mix at the correct price, quantity and time required to support all manufacturing requirements. The Sr. Buyer must use industry accepted best practices as they apply to purchasing, materials management, inventory control and working capital management in order to achieve all Whip Mix goals and objectives (i.e. inventory turns, average days on hand, purchase price variances, etc.).

The Sr. Buyer will work in tandem with Engineering, Technical Services and Manufacturing in order to pursue continuous improvement activities in the sourcing of materials, product re-design, cost reductions and inventory reductions.

The Sr. Buyer works closely with Production Planning and may be responsible for some level of planning.

**Job Functions and Responsibilities**

Responsible for procuring all materials and services needed to support manufacturing requirements and needs of departments such as, Engineering, Research and Development and Technical Services. Materials procured will include bill-of-material items, imported products, services and maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies. The primary objective will be to purchase materials at the correct price with the scheduled delivery date, quantity and transportation means to ensure production and service goals are met. This also includes regularly analyzing open purchase orders to manage inventory and changes to production requirements.

Review current material offerings to look for opportunities to re-source with an objective of improved performance, quality and/or cost.

Leads and participates in new projects. Responsibilities will be to provide supplier/component knowledge, set up of new items, providing all required documentation and ordering of material. This includes Continuous Improvement initiatives companywide.

Monitors all departmental and company metrics on an on-going basis to ensure that performance is in line with Whip Mixs goals and objectives. These will include inventory levels, inbound freight expense, inventory turns, average days of inventory on hand, purchase price variances, etc. Cycle Count when required.

Creates purchasing specification, receiving inspection requirements and ISO 13485 supporting documentation as required. This will be done in cooperation with Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical Services and Research and Development. This includes initiating Change requests (CR) when appropriate

Handles any quality issues which occur in area of responsibility. Actions might include working with supplier to have material returned for rework or credit, issuing a Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) and insuring production requirements are covered. Facilitates discussions between Whip Mix staff and suppliers as it relates to any and all issues associated with quality concerns.

**Job Requirements**

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Worker Characteristics**

- Must have proven ERP experience in a Manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in Lean manufacturing principles, Process Improvement and Purchasing methodologies in a Continuous Improvement environment.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation and production methods.
- Must possess critical thinking skills by using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and have the ability to prioritize and accomplish daily workload without direct supervision.
- Strong attention to detail, along with, great time management and organization skills, is critical for handling the purchasing duties and multiple ongoing projects.
- Should be goal oriented and have the ability to accomplish set goals within a specific timeframe
- Must have the ability to quickly make decisions and be able to articulate reasoning behind the decision.
