The Loomis Chaffee School Alumni/Development Office seeks an experienced, self-starting, motivated, enthusiastic, and collaborative individual to join our team as a Major Gifts Officer, managing a portfolio of 100+ prospective donors who live both domestically and overseas. This development officer will collaborate with key fundraising colleagues responsible for the execution of a comprehensive major gifts program designed to generate financial support through prospect research, cultivation, personal solicitations, follow-up, and long-term prospect stewardship. Joining a high-functioning major gifts team, the new gift officer will play a key role in planning for the upcoming comprehensive campaign, while building relationships with both on- and off-campus partners in support of the school's current and future goals. Loomis Chaffee consistently secures over $12 million in total voluntary support in a given year, including an Annual Fund that raises over $5 million per year. Roughly two-thirds of the school's revenue is donated by alumni with the other one-third contributed by current or past parents. The school successfully raised $131 million in its last capital campaign, surpassing the $100 million goal.This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, a desire and enthusiasm for extensive travel, including some international travel, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work autonomously and within a team. Key Accountabilities Manage a portfolio of 100+ capital and planned giving prospects, identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding these individuals who are alumni and parents living domestically or abroad.Solicit Annual Fund gifts, and five, six, and seven-figure capital and planned gifts, following up with written proposals when appropriate.Work strategically, as assigned, with senior administrators, faculty, staff, and volunteer leaders to support the school's fundraising priorities. This includes helping to build a strategy for engagement and solicitation of our international constituency.Help introduce the new Head of School to key constituents and play a key role in staffing a Welcome Tour in assigned regions.Design and develop solicitation strategies consistent with donors' interests and ability to give. Conduct personal visits in assigned geographic territories, along with other communication with these individuals via Zoom, telephone, email, and handwritten correspondence.Collaborate with colleagues on the major gifts, Annual Fund, and advancement services teams to ensure the best efforts in managing relationships and securing support from donors.Complete visit reports in a timely fashion. Track all communications with major gifts prospects in our Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT database.Represent the school at alumni and parent receptions and events on and off campus.Participate in major gifts meetings and various other departmental meetings as required.Serve as a Reunion Class Liaison, overseeing fundraising and volunteer management, for 1-to-2 classes annually. Execute other tasks as assigned. Skills and Knowledge Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both oral and written.Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.Understanding of the needs and interests of major gift donors to engage them with the school.Willingness and enthusiasm for travel, including internationally.Professional, strong work ethic, organized, attention to detail, a self-starter, and able to manage several projects concurrently.Comfortable and skilled in soliciting gifts, in the five, six, and seven figure range.Nimble in negotiating complicated solicitations and giving structures.Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the school's strategic fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, volunteers, and colleagues.Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends at various times throughout the year. High level of integrity, creativity, motivation, flexibility, and adaptability.Excellent team player with a sense of humor, confidence, and humility.A highly developed sense of confidentiality and propriety in dealing with sensitive information. Experience At least 3-to-5 years of development experience, preferably at an independent school or in higher education;Knowledge of and interest in independent schools.
