SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for making and serving nutritious meals for students in a safe and healthful manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
•Prepares and serves food according to menus and in correct portion sizes as mandated by yield guides.
•Performs cleaning duties, including sweeping and mopping of floors, cleaning of equipment and work areas, dishwashing and pot washing.
•Brews coffee, fills beverage machines, sets up hot and/or cold food area.
•Delivers, when necessary, food to staff, students and catering events.
•Complies with all state, Federal, local health department requirements for safe food handling
•Complies with all client location security protocols and guidelines
•Checks and stores incoming supplies.
•Follows assigned break schedules.
•Collects and strips trays for dishwashing and participates in ware washing if assigned
•Stores silverware, dishes, glasses, cups, pots, etc.
•Participates on safety committee.
•Attends all mandatory in-service programs.
•Manages POS/cash handling if applicable for position

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Adheres to all Whitsons policies and procedures at all times
•Supports the goals, objective and mission statement set forth by Whitsons.
•Complies with all requirements of the mandated food handling certification requirements
•Performs all other duties as assigned.

•While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required Sit, walk, talk
and hear
•Use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands
and arms.
•Be standing on feet majority of the workday in addition to walking back and forth.
•Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Lifting while turning side to side is sometimes necessary.
•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
•The work is performed primarily in the kitchen and on the serving line
•Standing most of the workday is required.
•Work requires movement in and out of storerooms and freezers
•Exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold) due to cooking and refrigeration equipment.
•The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

  1. Follows all laws, Board Policies, regulations, rules and procedures, and complies with the instructions and/or directives from his/her supervisor(s).
  2. Works independently and with others in assigned school cafeterias and kitchens.
  3. Establishes an effective working rapport with all other staff and maintains a positive relationship with the school district's internal and external publics.
  4. As per the direction of the head cook, assumes one or more of the following responsibilities as needed in a timely manner during meal service:
    1. Food preparation;
    2. Point of sale; and/or
    3. Serving proper portions of hot food and restocking cold food areas.
  5. Rotates assigned kitchen duties as directed.
  6. Helps with clean-up of preparation, serving, and dishwashing areas.
  7. As directed, maintains contemporary job-related awareness and personal growth through participation in staff development activities.
  8. As authorized, works the additional hours necessary outside of the normal work day for the completion of tasks inherent to the position.
  9. Performs the work described herein without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself or others.
  10. Performs other related duties and tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Has the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Has the ability to prepare and serve meals.
  3. As is necessary, possesses needed technology-related knowledge and individual computer skills, including but not limited to the ability to learn and operate the Point of Sale system.
  4. Possesses effective communication, judgmental, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and human relations skills;
  5. Has the ability to be flexible and adapt to different work-related situations that affect food services operations.
  6. Must possess and display the ability to follow directives and adhere to the established chain of command.
  7. Must be dependable, punctual, flexible, appropriately attired, neat in appearance and able to manage time appropriately.
  8. Must maintain a professional demeanor and image.
  9. Must be courteous to students, staff, and the general public.
  10. Must possess adequate interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work independently and/or on a team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
Education:
•High school graduate or equivalent.
•Must complete all Whitsons and other mandated training as necessary
Other Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
•Ability to speak and read English in order to understand and perform job assignments.
•1 year professional food service experience preferred
•Always present a positive and professional image.
