JOB TITLE: EARLY ON SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
(TOTE PROGRAM)

JOB SUMMARY: Working with young children (0-3 years of age) with mild communication delays in homes and developmental play groups, providing parents and Early On providers with therapeutic program plans that can be carried out in the home during daily routines. Coordinating service with Early On staff, families, paraprofessionals, agency and district staff. Preference will be given to the candidate who has experience in this job scope and has also worked with young children with impaired communication abilities and their families.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MA or MS degree.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) preferred or eligible.
  • Valid Michigan Speech Language Pathology License
  • Valid Michigan driver's license.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development.
  • Essentials of Early On.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):
  • Self-direction and ability to work effectively in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to provide early education for the families of Early On eligible children.
  • Demonstrate confidentiality, tact, collaboration and similar qualities necessary in meeting and dealing effectively with others, not only within the confines of the program but also with parents and community people.
  • Develop home program plans related to family routines for eligible children (0-3 years of age) in all areas of development, specifically communication.
  • Ability to make home visits in order to assist families and Early On providers in working effectively with their children to improve communication development.
  • Direct small group opportunities for children (0-3) and families in mini-workshops, developmental playroom, and parent groups.
  • Support families in seeking and utilizing community resources for their children.
  • Assist in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of programming.
  • Assess communication functioning of infant/toddlers.
  • Assess infants and children with special needs, interpret results, and develop appropriate written evaluation reports.
  • Develop and coordinate language and communication development workshops for Early On providers
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of cultural differences, environments, and family dynamics.
  • Ability to be flexible in difficult and unique situations.
  • Ability to use technology for remote services, documentation and preparation of professional materials and to assist young children and their families.
  • Ability to participate in IFSP development and provide timely service requirements in an accurate collaborative manner.
  • Maintain timely and organized records, service logs.
