Position Summary The I&E Specialist is responsible for the installation, programming, maintenance, and repair of all instruments, control systems, and electrical equipment in and around the well site/plant/pipeline. The I&E Specialist performs work of high skill in the inspection, calibration, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of all control, electronic and electrical field and plant equipment. In addition, the I&E Specialist serves as a Subject Matter Specialist in both instrumentation and automation systems as well as electrical systems and construction. This role is responsible for overseeing contractors, leading projects, and providing reports to management in their area of expertise. This position is primarily in the field and will be based out of one of the field offices in Mandaree, Williston, Watford City, or New Town, ND. Level and salary commensurate with experience. Essential Job Functions Write PLC programs using cause and effect, P&IDs, and control narratives. Design, build, and test complete systems in area of expertise (automation or electrical). Commission new sites as needed, completing all testing, verification, and documentation. Coordinate projects with management, other departments, contractors, and utilities. Manage construction crews in accordance with National Electrical Code. Manage automation crews in accordance with IEEE and ISA80 standards. Perform and document the design, specification, installation, programming, calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automation equipment, and electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems. Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair instrumentation i.e., transmitters, analyzers, control valves, switches, relays, etc. Troubleshoot and perform basic electrical maintenance on motors, motor controls relating to sucker rod pumps, LACT units, saltwater disposals, miscellaneous pumps, along with PLC controllers and some instrumentation. Inspect, repair, and remove all types of generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and UPS with systems with storage batteries, and any type of electrical systems. Work with a wide variety of instruments including pH, conductivity, ultrasonic, guided wave radar, mass flow, pressure transducers, RTDs, etc. Install and debug PLC programs using cause and effect, P&IDs, and control narratives. Work with MCCs, high and low voltage (480v and 4160v switchgear), and multiple brands of VFDs. Maintain files, logs, and drawings for all designated instrumentation and electrical equipment including PSM regulated facilities. Handle programming of automation systems (PLC and DCS). Implement safe work practices and be a leader in proactive safety culture while ensuring safety for the employee, the public, and the environment at all times. Ability to work and lead in a team environment. Able to handle exposure to heights, noise, extreme weather conditions, and areas where hazardous chemicals are present. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Candidate must live within a 70-mile commuting radius of work reporting location. 10 years work experience as a Technician in a related industry. PLC programming skills for a variety of architectures. Possess mathematical and scientific aptitude and the patience to pursue complex problems methodically. Understands Piping and Instrument Diagrams, Signal Flow Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Panel Drawings, One-Line Drawings, Loop Sheets, and Wire Lists. Thorough knowledge and understanding of all codes and standards for local, state, federal, and OSHA. Knowledge in the use of electrical equipment and a variety of hand tools. Proficient with Allen Bradley programming software, PLCs and HMIs; working knowledge of non-Allen Bradley control systems a plus. Understands NEC framework (electrical classification). Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, ability to learn company-specific programs). Must have a hands-on approach and strong work ethic. Ability to provide solutions quickly and accurately even in stressful situations. Ability to comply with DOT Regulations. Must be able to work all shifts/schedules as needed as well as scheduled on-call weekends. Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle competing demands with flexibility. Ability to work well with and at times direct others. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Able to handle exposure to noise, extreme weather conditions, and areas where hazardous chemicals are present. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively. Ability to successfully complete a post-offer/pre-employment drug screen, background check, physical, functional capacity examination, and to be able to meet all physical requirements of the job.
