Position Summary:
The Private Banker is the primary driver of sales for all Private Banking deposit and lending products, a key connector to internal business partners that provide clients with access to specialized financial needs (Wealth/Mortgage/Commercial), and a demonstrated industry expert that can build and retain a relationship portfolio. Key responsibilities include business development and retention, credit analysis and underwriting, collateral management, risk management, community involvement, partnering with financial services and other business lines in cross-sell and referral activities, and ensuring the assigned portfolio is in compliance with all applicable standards, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage and retain full-service relationships with high-net-worth private banking clients.
  • Drive and promote sales for all Private Banking deposit and lending products (interview potential clients, determine their financial needs, and facilitate the sale of appropriate bank products and services).
  • Serve as a key connector to internal business partners to serve clients entire balance sheet with a focus on credit and banking solutions.
  • Effectively grow high net worth clients by earning trust, understanding client needs and providing proactive advice through an exceptional client experience.
  • Provide customized banking solutions based on the needs of the client.
  • Partner with Credit Underwriting/Closing team to facilitate approval or denial of lending opportunities.
  • Participate in end-to-end sales process, primarily through regular client engagement, to help identify loan and business opportunities.
  • Proactively manage banking relationships across the organization to generate revenue growth.
  • Develop deep internal partnerships to drive new client acquisition and to provide interdisciplinary expertise to clients when needed.
  • Meet established sales and growth goals.
  • Represent Alerus in community organizations and activities.
  • Assume responsibility for career growth and development. Actively pursue continuing education and self-development to enhance skills.
  • Be flexible and adaptive when faced with the changing needs of the customer.
  • Build solid working relationships with team members, acting as a resource for others whenever possible.
  • Productively participate in company and department meetings.

Position Requirements:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Finance, Business or similar focus preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a financial institution, with a focus on private banking or working with high net-worth clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in client acquisition and retention.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and decision making.

Physical Demands - Must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation:
  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
