Department Overview

The Rates department in PG&E's Corporate Affairs develops regulatory expertise in gas and electric rates proceedings at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). The team conducts cost of service analysis, forecasts revenues, and supports other organizations in understanding customer usage trends for PG&E programs.

Position Summary

PG&E is looking for an Expert-level Strategic Analyst for the Electric Rates, Analysis, and Planning team, focusing on data analysis, management, and visualization. The role involves performing quantitative analysis of rate levels, trends, and drivers for strategic initiatives, supporting regulatory proceedings, and providing technical support for rate-related initiatives across the company. The successful candidate should possess strong analytical skills, structured thinking, and effective communication abilities.

The role is a hybrid position, with partial remote work and in-person meetings at the Oakland General Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop presentations to senior leadership to influence strategic decisions based on rate-related analysis.
  • Provide technical support for rate-related initiatives in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Organize and present expert testimony.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot problems, providing findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Develop analytic tools and support strategic planning.
  • Prepare analytic support for regulatory filings.
  • Maintain database of rate-related information and trends.
  • Coordinate with departments to address business impacts of rate-related initiatives.
  • Respond to requests for quantitative and qualitative rate analysis.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BS/BA degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Engineering, or related fields.
  • 6 years of relevant experience.

Desired:

  • Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Policy, Engineering, or related fields.
  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Expert knowledge in policy development, revenue requirements, and energy markets.
  • Ability to present complex data to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
