Space Operations Subject Matter Expert

Overview RMC is seeking a Space Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a full-time position in the National Capital Region. The Space Operations SME provides space operations experience and support to the US Space Force Mission Assurance Program Office, aligns with SpMA strategy and guidance, and serves as part of a mission-driven team focused on security for federal and commercial partners. The role supports space systems and capabilities, with emphasis on mission decomposition, risk management, and documenting risk in the SpMA repository. The ability to communicate technical information clearly across the SpMA community and to gather, analyze, and present risk mitigation options for senior leadership is required. The position is full-time and located in the National Capital Region. Responsibilities Conduct Level 1-3 analysis and mission decomposition for launch missions and other missions, ad-hoc mission priorities, wargames, training exercises, operational planning teams, mission-specific conferences, and SME working group participation. Develop a systematic process for mission decomposition of strategic Space missions and identify risk-to-strategic missions clearly and qualitatively. Clearly define SpMAs strategic missions and mission owners. Input HQ USSF launch mission assets in the SpMA COI in MA repository (examples include FADE). Map HQ USSF launch mission asset relationships and dependencies in the SpMA COI in MA repository. Complete dependency mapping of mission-relevant assets to HQ USSF launch mission assets in the SpMA COI MA repository. Produce a prioritized list of mission-relevant assets needing repair, upgrades, or replacement to inform other communities. Document risk-to-strategic mission and associated mission impact in the MA repository. Convey SpMA risk-to-strategic mission for the selected mission to the DoD MA community, ensuring integration into the communitys processes and procedures. Competencies Demonstrated ability to convey complex mission and technical issues in a clear, actionable manner for senior leadership Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to translate data into strategic recommendations Effective communicator capable of engaging across organizational levels and in Joint/Service working groups Skilled at developing structured plans and solutions to achieve program objectives and inform enterprise decisions Ability to work independently and in small, high-performing teams Proven ability to synthesize large volumes of technical and policy information into concise reports, briefings, and recommendations Proficient in Microsoft Office; SharePoint experience is a plus Experience with Fusion Analysis and Development Effort (FADE) is a plus Professional presence, integrity, and adaptability for high-visibility, fast-paced headquarters environments Education & Experience Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Sciences, Intelligence Studies, or related discipline) Minimum of 7 years of DoD experience, including direct involvement with space operations, space intelligence, or mission planning Experience applying DoD risk management processes to assess mission dependencies and infrastructure vulnerabilities Prior experience supporting MAAs or similar risk-informed prioritization efforts strongly preferred Certificates & Licenses Certified Space Professional (CSP) Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I or comparable service-level development a plus Additional Requirements Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a DoD TS-SCI clearance; government security investigation and eligibility determinations required Valid Passport: Current passport with at least 8 months remaining until expiration Hybrid Role: Monthly travel to a local designated government site to work on secure networks and maintain NIPR/SIPR/JWICS access Travel: Willingness to travel CONUS and OCONUS ~25% of the time Telecommunication: Telecommunication may be required per mission requirements Work Environment: Commitment to a drug-free workplace, US citizenship, and a valid state drivers license For more information about the company, visit rmcglobal.com.
