Position Description:

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant Fixed Assets and Leases assists in preparation of the companys monthly financial statements, including routine accounting entries, ensures proper reconciliation of general ledger accounts to assist in delivering timely and accurate financial data and statements to senior management and external and internal auditors. The Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting of fixed assets and leases, monthly journal entries, and monthly and quarterly reports as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Controls & Compliance Management

  • Administration of leases including, additions, returns, modifications, extensions, etc. in the lease accounting system.
  • Fixed asset month-end closing tasks including, but not limited to, recording of additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation in the fixed asset accounting systems.
  • Prepare and load monthly/quarterly journal entries into Oracle.
  • Maintain reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Assist in Fixed Asset and Lease Tracking.
  • Assist with review and recording of distribution center occupancy expenses and accruals.
  • Help facilitate timely and accurate ad hoc information requests from management and other functional departments/distribution centers.
  • Assist in the development and continued performance of a proper internal control environment around the general ledger function.

Process Improvement Management

  • Advise management on actions needed to improve performance and/or controls.
  • Collaborate across functions to promote best practices as they relate to finance & accounting processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Education: Bachelors Degree (Accounting, Finance, or related discipline)
  • Experience: 0-3 years of experience in accounting/financial reporting

Preferred

  • Strong Excel skills and experience in accounting, reporting, and analysis of data in large ERP systems (i.e. Oracle, SAP, etc.)

    • Participate in the monthly closing activities such as journal entries, accruals and reconciliations

    • Recognize the need for internal controls, such as duties conflict segregation, user access, and data integrity controls, and abide by the relevant organizational policies.
