Reporting to: President of the High Sierra Fire Protection

Job Summary:

The Controller will be the accounting and finance lead for this growing business. In the near term, this will be both a hands-on and strategic role. As the company grows, the role may be expanded accordingly. The Controller will be responsible for all day-to-day accounting and payroll transactions as well as budgeting, cash forecasting, and overall planning and compliance. This position currently does not have any direct reports but has some assistance from the Office Manager as needed, with the goal of adding additional resources in the future.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate all operational and technical accounting and financial activities at the portfolio company.
  • Work with team to help transition from QuickBooks to Sage Intacct and ADP payroll.
  • Handle general accounting activities, including account reconciliation, month/quarter/year-end close, preparing company P&L statements, and the like.
  • Develop and document various accounting processes and review current processes for improvements.
  • Work alongside various departments to deliver accurate and consolidated financial statements for the portfolio company and ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Oversee and approve certified union-based payroll for multiple unions. Work with compliance for union dues, benefits, pension requirements, workers compensation, and applicable taxes and policies.
  • Provide timely and accurate monthly management/financial reporting and preparation of all the business reporting requirements to the holding/private equity firm.
  • Prepare management reporting (and MD&A) for stakeholders including the portfolio leadership and wider Board/Endeavor. Comfortable in identifying and proposing process and financial performance improvements (P&L, Cash Flow).
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Liaise with external auditors and other specialist providers (e.g. year-end tax)
Our Ideal Candidate:
  • 5-8 years' experience in a similar accounting position.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred.
  • Contracting accounting including WIP schedules and cost to complete calculations is required.
  • Experience within the construction industry and those business models is critical.
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct is preferred; however, knowledge of other construction accounting systems is required
  • Self-motivated and curious individual with effective organizational skills
  • High level of attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Self-starter, with the ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting packages
