SUMMARY:

The Coordinator for training and Development is primarily responsible for training and development of para-professional staff within and working in collaboration with Residence Life & Housing. Primary duties and responsibilities will be working in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Associate Director for Residence Life, while collaborate with other departments and staff, to coordinate several facets of the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation processes. The Coordinator for Training and Development also plays an integral part in fostering the overall residential experience through various connections within the department and division of Student Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Training, Development, and Associated Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, assists in the coordination of and provides leadership for the student staff recruitment and selection process
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, assists in the coordination of and provides leadership for the implementation of student staff training initiatives
  • Provides coordination and oversight of training and onboarding for student staff hires that occur outside of the regular recruitment and training cycles in collaboration with supervisors
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of student staff training initiatives throughout the year to provide continuing education and professional development opportunities for student staff
  • Coordinates with the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Advanced Graduate Trainee/LPC Resident and Residence Life & Housing Graduate Assistant on student staff training and continuing education focused on mental health and well-being
  • Serves as lead instructor, working in collaboration with co-instructors, for each section of the seven-week credit-bearing course taught each spring for newly selected student staff.
  • Coordinates student staff bi-annual evaluation process.
  • Performs student staff learning assessments and provides data driven suggestions and recommendation to assist with training initiative.
Department Responsibilities
  • Participates in on-call duty rotation. Works closely with Director, Associate Directors, and both College dean's offices and provides support to students. As essential personnel, provides support and assistance when necessary in response to campus crisis.
  • Serve as a liaison between and for residents, residence life and housing administrators, other departments, and/or external constituencies in relation to day-to-day programmatic, operational and administrative issues and problem resolution related to housing.
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of residence life and housing functions and programs (e.g. Opening and Orientation, Move-in, Move-out, Break closings).
  • Perform a range of diverse administrative activities for the organizational unit, including, but not limited to: budget management, and updating manuals and instructional materials. utilizing event management systems, website development and updates, internal and external communication; compose and edit correspondence and documentation; administering follow-up for residence life and housing related processes and procedures.
Divisional/University Involvement
  • Conduct Officer - Authorized to conduct preliminary hearings, determine outcomes, and assign sanctions upon students who accept responsibility for a violation of the Standards of Student Conduct. Completes appropriate administrative functions related to student conduct.
  • Academic Advising - Serves as academic advisor for undeclared First Year students each year, and remains as the academic advisor for these students until they declare a major.
  • WELL/UNIV 100 Instructor - Instructs sessions of the University's first-year course, attends trainings, coordinates with co-instructors, and provides feedback regarding curriculum and course design as necessary.
  • Admission Events - Participates and helps lead residence hall tours for all perspective and admitted students during Preview and Experience Richmond events.
  • Committee Involvement - Participates in divisional and/or University committees on behalf of the department as needed.
  • Professional Development - Actively participates in professional associations through attendance at annual meetings, reading of journals and newsletters, and presenting at conferences.
  • Collaboration - Establishes and maintains good working relationships with other units within the division and University.
Office Administration/Additional Responsibilities
  • Completes administrative tasks as needed and requested including but not limited to: opening and closing responsibilities, fire/safety inspections, residential area/room inspections and damage billing.
  • Supports Housekeeping and Facilities Services staff in maintaining healthy and safe living conditions within residential communities.
  • Maintains office hours Monday-Friday (9:00 am - 5:00 pm) to allow for interaction with students and other staff. Maintains availability and accessibility to residents and student staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge in the areas of college student development theory, residential life, and housing is required; understanding of theoretical framework related to college student gender identity development is not required but preferred.
  • Experience and understanding of conflict management, problem solving, crisis management, time management is required.
  • Knowledge of applicable professional standards, policies, procedures, and legislation related to the areas of residence life/housing is required.
  • Leadership ability is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills are required; demonstrated presentation skills are highly desired.
  • Computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheet, email/calendar software, and web-based applications, is required; general knowledge or experience with Microsoft Office, Banner/BannerWeb, Maxient, and StarRez is desired; understanding of current social media platforms used by college students is helpful.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • A master's degree in higher education administration or a closely related field is required. Two to three years of experience as a full-time professional working in Residence Life and Housing is preferred.
WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • Maintains availability and accessibility to residents and student staff. Due to the nature of this position, including but not limited to after-hours and crisis/emergency response as well as building inspections will be expected to fulfill these duties and assigned work for this position (Live-in/on position).

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $39,083.00 to $51,792.00 annually)
