Job Description:

Indorama Ventures is looking for a Process Safety Engineer to join our Indovinya team in The Woodlands, Texas. In this role, you will provide technical advice and guidance to ensure process hazards are identified, risks are assessed, and cost-effective solutions are implemented. Likewise, shall demonstrate a strong consideration for safety, environmental stewardship, training, and development, as well as promoting continuous improvement in the operations.

What will be expected from you?
  • Participate in and support the Management of Change Program. Including but not limited to MOC applicability, evaluation, hazard reviews, Pre-startup Safety Reviews, auditing and MOC Training.
  • Facilitate or participate on Process Hazard Analyses (new and revalidations) and other hazard assessments efficiently to identify potential process hazards. Additionally, facilitate Layers of Protection Analysis to assess hazards and potential mitigations. Ensure Independent Protection Layers (IPLs), Consequence Mitigation Systems (CMSs) and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) are reviewed and that they achieve a level of reliability that is appropriate.
  • Oversee the progression of PHA/LOPA/FSS recommendations, ensuring appropriate planning and execution.
  • Lead and/or participate in process safety related incident investigations. Provide support and guidance for the process safety classification of incidents, following API 754 for Process Safety Performance.
  • Support the development and progression of Process Safety related capital projects. Facilitate hazard reviews and PHAs as needed for capital projects.
  • Collaborate with technical and operations staff to identify and mitigate potential LOPC hazards of existing and new processes:
  • General Hazards: flammability, deflagration, over-pressurization.
  • Reactive Scenarios: decompositions, and runaways.
  • Oversee and support the site Facility Siting program and initiatives.
  • Assist in updates / revisions to the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Programs (RMP) for the US sites.
  • Identify, coordinate, and implement improvements to process safety procedures and programs.
  • Supports Process Safety related training. Train new and existing employees on process safety related programs and awareness for process safety hazards.
  • Supports US sites to maintain compliance with Federal Regulation 29 CFR 1910.119 (PSM) and 40 CFR 68 (RMP).
  • Supports US sites during regulatory agency inspections and third-party audits, as necessary.
  • Participates on company internal audit teams, provides relevant recommendations.
  • Maintains a high level of understanding of PSM Laws and Regulations that impact the company and its facilities.
  • Ensure the proper communication of process safety key performance indicators in all areas of the units (Visible Leadership Model - PSM Dashboard).
  • Ensure full compliance with the management of change procedure (MOC) and Bypass Form (override safety system), in order to contribute to the increase, and sustain the process safety maturity.
  • Ensure compliance with internal goals for the PSM KPIs to carry out actions focused on monitoring that result in assertive behavior sense of change and chronic unease (e.g., increase deviation, hazard, near misses' report, TIER 3, TIER 4 Zero Overdue etc.).
  • Make sure that all the Indovinya Standards regarding PSM are implemented and understood by the US sites.
What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering or related field from an accredited university.
  • 3 plus years of experience in Process Safety Management including Process Hazard Analysis and Layers of Protection Analysis preferred, or three plus years of experience in plant operations or engineering.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
  • PHA software such as PHA-Pro is preferred.
  • Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Familiarity with industry standards and recommended practices (API, NFPA, ASME, etc.) - RAGAGEPs.
  • Ability to plan, delegate, and organize tasks to consistently produce results within the deadlines.
  • Ability to facilitate & control a multi-disciplined, cross-functional team.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate with multiple layers of the organization.
  • Knowledgeable on Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and risk assessment, including HAZOP, What-If, LOPA, and basic Safety Integrity Level (SIL) identification.
  • Ability to apply and interpret standards and procedures to various situations.
