The Employment and Payroll Group has an opening in the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) Program for an Industry Coder (Program Technician).

Coders review and assign industry codes to all employers that are covered under the California Unemployment Insurance laws. Coders will also re-evaluate existing industry codes already assigned to employers.

A coder works under the direction of a Supervisor to assign county codes, physical location codes, and ownership codes for all types of businesses located within the borders of California. The coder will also review data already reported by employers using a variety of system generated listings including an address refinement list. The coder will use the telephone, Internet, and other computer systems and tools to complete their coding duties. Coders will also spend a portion of their day answering telephone calls from employers to assist them with their coding questions.

This position is headquartered at Tech Center Drive, Sacramento, CA 95826 and may be eligible for telework under EDD's telework policy. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telecommute. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.

This opening is for an office position working Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with no direct access to the public. Travel may be occasionally required to attend meetings, trainings, and conferences.
