The Humanities Administrative Support Center (HASC) is a dynamic administrative unit that supports the academic Departments of Classics, East Asian Languages & Cultural Studies, History, and Religious Studies. **Brief Summary of Job Duties**

Under the general supervision of the Academic Student Services Manager, and working closely with the Faculty Graduate and Undergraduate Advisors, serves as general information officer and coordinator for undergraduate and graduate administrative affairs primarily for students majoring in East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies. Provides academic advising for majors, minors and potential new students. The Academic Advisor coordinates the undergraduate/graduate services; advises students and faculty on all aspects of under/graduate affairs. Coordinates quarterly schedule of classes, annual copy for general catalog, master course approvals and Summer Sessions courses. Maintains departmental quarterly statistical reports and completes IRAL and Instructor Workload reports. Works with College of Letters & Science advisors and EAP advisors to accurately communicate college policies and EAP requirements to students. Provides input and recommendations to the Department Chair, Under/Graduate Affairs Committee and the Curriculum Committee regarding issues affecting students.

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience in a higher education setting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure of deadlines, large workload, and frequent interruptions.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, assertiveness and diplomacy, and critical attention to detail.
- Able to exercise good judgement, common sense, and discretion, while providing careful attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with minimum supervision; set boundaries and adhere to them.
- Creatively problem-solve.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as a staff team member, and to work well with faculty members and students.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Academic Advising experience in a UCSB academic department.
- Familiarity with UCSB Academic Advising programs: AAA,, GradPoint, Gaucho BLUE, GOLD, eGrades, Ad Astra, CourseDog, DSP portal.

**Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties**

Undergraduate Program Coordination
- 25% - Coordinates and oversees administrative aspects of the Undergraduate Program including the following: Tracks current course enrollment Coordination statistics and trends: provides charts/tables of statistics reflecting enrollments to Manager and Department Chair as requested. Monitors enrollments in department courses and alerts Manager and Chair regarding courses not meeting the minimum enrollment requirements. Assists the Faculty Advisor on matters concerned with student academic requirements and completion of the degree program. Oversees establishment and maintenance of the undergraduate student files; recording of petitions and grades, degree awards, withdrawals, etc. Works individually with students to provide information on major and graduation requirements, resolves individual problems as liaison with instructors, the office of the Registrar, and the College of Letters and Science. Resolves grading problems, ensures major requirement sheets are updated annually. Develops brochures, flyers, and other publicity materials for the Undergraduate Program.
