**TITLE**: Cashier DEPARTMENT: Front End

**STATUS**: PT/FT, Clerk, Union, Hourly REPORTS TO: Front End Manager

**JOB SUMMARY**: To ensure the highest level of service possible to Outpost’s internal and external customers. To check out and assist customers while meeting objectives for accuracy and speed.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**: Fast paced retail floor and cash office environment with moderate to loud noises (i.e. computers, paging, telephones, human voices, and equipment). Work near moving mechanical parts (i.e. register belt). Position requires working during busy retail times, which include weekends, afternoons, and evenings.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES**:
1. Customer Service
a. Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect.
b. Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards.
2. Front End Department Responsibilities
a. Check out customer’s purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices, codes and departments.
b. Ensure 100% cash register accuracy and ensure all payment transactions are completed with efficiency and precision.
c. Bag groceries and ask customers if they need any further assistance.
d. End the customer transaction with a pleasant farewell such as “thank you for shopping at Outpost” or “have a nice day.”
e. Call for back up on registers when needed.
f. Become familiar with co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to front end manager, supervisory staff, or customer service.
g. Be familiar with Outpost’s owner policy to answer owner related questions. Refer customers interested in joining the co-op to the customer service desk.
h. Follow proper procedures in balancing cash drawer at end of shift.
i. Follow security procedures in handling drawers, pick-ups, potential shoplifters, and quick change artists.
j. Maintain front end area in a clean, organized, and orderly condition.
k. Clean register and put shop backs away at end of shift.
l. Advise front end manager of equipment/ replacement needs.
m. During slow times, take initiative to stock items or ask for assignments from the front end manager or supervisory staff.
n. Attend department meetings as scheduled.

3. All Staff Duties
a. Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documents.
b. Keep store/office orderly and clean.
c. Maintain a positive attitude.
d. Perform all other duties as assigned by department manager or supervisory staff.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES**:

- Outstanding customer service skills
- Experience cash handling
- Math knowledge required
- Attention to detail and good organizational skills
- Familiarity with computers and typing
- Ability to handle multiple demands and work under time pressures
- Willingness to be open, to learn, and take on new responsibilities
- Demonstrate objectivity, neutrality and calmness under pressure
- Ability to maintain a cooperative, friendly, and outgoing attitude
- Regular, predictable attendance
- Effective communication skills in English
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions
- Ability to follow through on systems, procedures and policies
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment

**ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Standing, walking, bending, reaching
- Using hands or fingers to handle or feel
- Specific vision ability: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and adjust focus
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
