Job Overview

Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Jail Health Reentry Services or designee, the MAPS Program Coordinator provides administrative and operational oversight to Mentoring and Peer Support (MPAS), a peer support program serving justice-involved individuals diagnosed with mental illness, substance use disorders and/or serious medical conditions. Responsibilities include supervising, training and supporting the professional development and daily work of peer staff; ensuring the provision of high quality peer-support services to MAPS clients and monitoring and enforcing adherence to MAPS and Jail Health Services policies and procedures. The MAPS program coordinator will also work in the jail to conduct mental health assessments, individual and group treatment and crisis intervention.

Key Responsibilities
- Recruits, hires and trains peer mentors.
- Provides weekly individual and group supervision to peer mentors.
- Conducts outreach and education to criminal justice and behavioral health partners about the MAPS program for client recruitment

purposes.
- Assists the JHRS Deputy Director with reviewing and updating MAPS program policies and procedures, as needed.
- Provides regular reports to provide JBHRS Director and JHRS Director.
- Ensures accurate and timely data collection and patient documentation.
- Routinely engages in quality improvement and quality assurance efforts.
- Oversees the day to day operations of the MAPS program and its staff including management of schedules, time off, sick calls,

productivity, performance and related administrative tasks.
- Ensures that MAPS data and statistics are collected, accurate, complete, and reported on a weekly basis.
- Attends court, at the direction of the JBHRS Deputy Director or designee.
- Arranges intake interviews for individuals referred to MAPS.
- Routinely assesses for client safety.
- Assists with the treatment of incarcerated patients in the jail as directed by the JBHRS Deputy Director or designee.
- Collaborates with community and jail case managers on treatment plans.
- Follows all policies and procedures of the program.
- Demonstrates commitment to continued diversity, equity and inclusion learning.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and/or mental illness.
- Experiencing working with and supporting a peer workforce.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention, mental status evaluation, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol treatment, brief therapy and group

therapy.
- Sensitivity to and experience working with diverse communities.
- Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team and interact effectively with healthcare and criminal justice partners.
- Ability to respond quickly and use good judgment in unusual and emergency situations.
- Ability to work with individuals in a jail setting.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a jail clearance.
- Ability to work independently.
